Guys:
I recently switched from an HTPC to an Xbox 360 to feed my 1292 projector
The projector was set up for 960p and 1080p from the HTPC
Upon switching to the Xbox 360 , the 1280x768 resolution looks stunning, I didn't have to do anything at all, and HD-DVD looks georgous.
However the 1920x1080 is too dark. in addition the image seems to be waving - it appears as if the color was waving up the screen. Sorry for the untechnical description. It appears when showing 1080p as if the screen were a curtain whcih was noit pulled tightly.
again, from the HTPC 1080p looked great with no problem.
and the 1280x768 looks fine from the Xbox now
thanks,
Jon
Any ideas?
I have the same problem, I've been told the porch settings are too high (I hope that's correct). I was told to reset the ABL, problem is, my project works great with everything but 1080p on the xbo 360. I wish someone would figure this out.

thanks glad to see it's a know problem
(what is ABL - not very technical here)
is it something that needs to be physically removed, or can I do it from the remote?
Sounds like a sync problem. With the source on, go to the menu page with the sync choices on it. There are a couple of choices (h/p is the only one I can think of off the top of my head) and try each one. It should help the dark wavy line problem. Be sure to save that as your new setting immediately or it will come back. the porch issue may still be there but I think that's different, like the image won't fill the screen no matter how much you stretch it.
I have problems with the 1080p out of the x box via VGA. Its not that the image is dark as much as the highlights are just blooming so much that its looks like really bad streaking.
I don't get this with any of the other resolutions or with 1080i direct tv.
I don't know if my ABL is on , but I have very little streaking and excellent grey scale tracking and so I don't want to mess with it. I think there is a timing issue. I wish someone would scope the xbox to see what the porches are at 1080p vs 720p.
I did try the sync setting and auto is still best.

Aside from the problems some are having with the 360 (as PeteNY mentioned) this sounds somewhat similar to what I see on my Marquee when I misadjust the horizontal phase.
Try adjusting the horizontal phase control (or whatever Sony calls it) for that input memory. The image will move left and right, and usually effects the symptoms you mentioned in your first post.

Does anyone know what button/field this would be on the 1292 remote/screens?
I tried the sync and it helped a little but still bad.

Check out page 84E of the install manual. Not sure if this will help your issue, but this is the adjustments I was referring to.
