Hi guys, need a bit of advice here concerning a new screen for my newly installed Sony Pearl (love this projector btw).
At present, I've got an old electric screen, the image from the Pearl looks great, but I want to do some hacking of my wooden fronted panel (see My Cinema Room (http://www.cinematreadwell.com)).
I'm considering a fixed screen from Carada, in fact this one, http://www.carada.com/ProductInfo.aspx?productid=PROJECTION-SCREEN-H110P
The room is light controlled and viewing is in darkness. I'm not sure which screen type to go for. I'm nervous of the grey so it's either the brilliant white or the classic cinema white.
Does anyone have a view? Anyone got one and using it with the Pearl?
Would love to hear opinions on this before I take the plunge!
Cheers

I got the Brilliant White screen to go with my 6 week old Pearl. I have been very happy with the combination. I ordered a custom size 104" diag. 2.05 to 1 Precision series screen which I am using in a constant area setup via the Pearl's motorized zoom (keeping 1.78/1.85 content and 2.35 cinemascope movies the same viewing area on the screen).
I compared the BW sample to a few Dalite samples but did not bother with a cinema classic white sample. I read that the classic white material is thinner and thus lets a fair amount of light pass through. Since the Pearl is no light cannon, I didn't think the classic white would be the best choice. Plus several AVS members were already commenting on how great the BW and Pearl worked together.
I like the fact that the BW material has a bit of gain to it, but yet is completely "invisible" with a projected image. For me, one of the advantages of the Pearl is its lack of screen door and small pixel size, so it was a priority for me to get a screen with no visible texture or sparklies.
Have you ordered samples from Carada to get a sense for yourself? Granted, the samples are small so it's hard to visualize what the whole screen will look like, but it's better than nothing.
The BW material does wash out fairly quickly with the lights on but my setup is in my basement (full light control, dark walls), so ambient light rejection was not a selection criteria for me.

Hey Guys -
I am very close to getting the Sony Pearl approved by the "Appropriations" committee and I have two challenges I was hoping to throw out for some advice:
(1) My "TV Room" has cream colored walls and a fair amount of ambient light during the day. I have wood blinds on all the windows, but they definitely don't block out all the light. I also have a sliding glass door on the same wall I will be mounting the screen, which has blinds but does not block out all the light. As it turns out, even something as small as a 96" screen will overlap the sliding glass door a little.
(2) I have a ceiling fan in the middle of the room I can't get rid of. I have borrowed a couple of friends projectors to see if it interferes, but I don't think I will know for sure until I install a mount and try the projector itself.
Based on my research so far, it sounds like a high contrast grey screen is my best choice to combat ambient light. I have been looking at Monoprice and Elite motorized screens so far with a ceiling mount and RF control, but haven't settled on anything just yet. However, I am concerned that since the Pearl doesn't put out a bunch of light, the picture might still be a little washed out. Anyone have any thoughts on this?
Also, based on where I want to put the screen, is there a way I can measure the angle the picture will come from the projector based on projector height from the ceiling and distance from the screen? I would obviously hate to go through all the trouble of installing this new hardware and then have the ceiling fan cut out some of the image.
I am pretty set on the Pearl unless anyone has a suggestion for a projector with the same specs and a higher light output.
I am out of town right now, but I will post a couple of pictures when I return.
Thanks as always!!

Hi Jurekman,
My cinema is here. Treadwell Home Cinema (http://www.cinematreadwell.com)
Also a fully blacked out room. I've ordered the BW from Carada and Dave is sorting it for me for a delivery next week. I'm also going to be hacking that lovely oak panel out to put the new Carada in (going from 6ft width to 8ft width!).

I have a Sony Pearl and a Carada BW 100inch screen and couldn't be happier! You can't go wrong with that combination.
