It has been a long while since i have looking into anything A/V related. I am trying to set up a HT system for the family.

I have allways had great exp with Denon, so i have chosen either the 3806 or the 4306. For a TV i probably have settled on the JVChd 61fh97. Next comes a speaker set up.

Which is why i am here.
First photos of the future room this will be in. Room demensions are 18.5'L x 12'W x 9' h

I am looking at axiom, several configuration really. I am looking for quality that will last. my budget is about 2500 including stands, wires, ends, and beer. I am wondering if i should stick to a 5.1 or try and tackle a 7.1 in this room.

here are a couple of combo's i have thought about on axioms page. (I am still open to other ideas if you have any)

5.1 with floor stand front stage.

M60 v2 (http://www.axiomaudio.com/m60ti_main.html)
VP150 v2 center (http://www.axiomaudio.com/vp150_main.html)
qs4 v2 surrounds (http://http://www.axiomaudio.com/qs4_main.html)
EP350 v2 sub (http://www.axiomaudio.com/ep350_main.html)

5.1 with bookshelf substitute the m60v2 for M22 v2 on floor stands (http://www.axiomaudio.com/m22ti_main.html)

7.1
M22 v2 with stands
vp150 v2
4 qs4 v2 surround two on stands two on wall mount
ep350 sub.

Finally i gues my question is... What are your thoughts, and what can you suggest that would be comparable. Color of the speakers is not a major issue, but WAF dictates they match.

Hey Grouse, happy new year! How exciting - building a new home theater room! Enjoy!

I was looking at Axioms initially also when I was going to upgrade last year, but I ended up hearing about Ascend Acoustics and after much investigation, went with the 340's from Ascend. I recently upgraded to the newer 340 SE's (Signature Editions) and have them as my center, left and right main speakers - FABULOUS (especially for the price!). I'm going to order another pair of 340 SE's for my corner surrounds come income tax refund time as I listen to a lot of hi-rez multi-channel music.

So I say you should audition both speakers yourself, you are only out the shipping cost to send them back if you prefer one over the other.

Congrats again - enjoy the journey!

Be Sure to save some for room treatments!

With all of the current and NEW "X" series speakers about to be released from AV123 (www.**********) and after personally auditioning the X-LS bookshelves, I would HIGHLY recommend you checking them out as well.

If the rest of the line follows step with the X-LS, they are going to have some SERIOUS performers at silly good pricing.

Either way, like the previous post.... don't forget some room treatments for that room and audition as many different speakers as you can. Order a pair of each under consideration, listen to them for 30 days in YOUR room, on YOUR gear. The small amount of return shipping will be money well spent toward choosing what sounds the best to YOU.

Good luck!

I was looking at the Axioms as well, but I am leaning toward the Ascends.

Axioms have been described as detailed by their supporters to painfully bright by their detractors. Personally I would hesitate to order more that the front 2 until I was sure I could live with them.

I am a big fan of their speakers, though I think you could do better on a sub. Check out the sub forum - no reason to match the sub to the speakers.

Is this true? I thought a matched setup, including the sub, was very important? Or is it really just more important for small, bookshelf-sized speakers...?

Axioms are good. Another good place is ********** for Rockets and other speakers.

He was correct, the sub does NOT have to be the same brand at all.
