View Full Version : DIY Paint on Wall Screen now - Real Screen later Question
I am considering going with a DIY Paint on wall screen before spending the $$$ on a screen.
My plan would be to simply hang a new screen such as a Da-lite perm wall screen over my paint on wall screen should I ever decide to get a real screen.
My question is, will this strategy require me to change the placement of my projector? I am not sure of the difference in distance a perm wall screen vs my paint on wall screen would be, but its got to be under 2"
I am also considering the PT-AX100u.
Less than 2" will have little effect on the focus. The Pant pjs are very flexible with zoom so you should have no problem.
Are you going to paint the whole wall or just a screen area?
What sort of lighting coditions will you have in your theatre?
I am considering building out the wall some. Imagine 2 rectangular columns on each side to house my speakers. The top and bottom will be built out some as well. Sort of creating a recessed nook for my screen area. I will then paint that nook a dark color border, then the screen area will be the DIY Paint on wall screen (which I havent determined which method to go with yet).
My lighting is totally controlled as this is in a basement with only 1 window that will be closed off when needed.
Are the walls and ceiling a dark color?
If so you could go with a white screen. Either painted, Do-able, or Designer White Wilsonart Laminate.
My walls will not be a dark color.
FWIW: My cousin painted his room yellow with a screen wall like I mentioned above. His nook is dark blue with a da-lite mounted perm wall screen. It looks fine...even with the yellow walls.
Is this approach common (DIY screen first, then later purchase a real screen)?
Or is the DIY solutions permanent because they work so well?
I am just curious...I have some money to burn for a screen but like to think that if the DIY route is worth it, then I can save the money for other things.
