If I recorded movies on my hdtv settop box like the incredibles, and the island, and star wars all 6, lemony snickerts,Battlfield earth, hitchhikers guide, xxx, the aviator, tomorrow never dies etc. Say that those movies already have motion codes in dvd.

We know most likely that these movies used the same masters as the dvd's.

Say I record them on a media center equipped pc with 3 terabytes of storage, then if I switched the spdif output into the Kinetron controller....

...it should work correct?

Nice talking to deaf people. Will it work or NOT?

...and with that attitude I think you'll be waiting quite some time for an answer. It IS New Years yanno??? Some folks might actually step away from the CCFL tanning bed (otherwise known as an LCD monitor) once in a while and give their families a LITTLE face time before returning to AVS. ;) 'Course you COULD always take a shot at it and let us know.

Seriously though, IMO it's NOT a sure bet, ever, that the same master was used for an HD release vs. a DVD release. Even if they were used, I'd think synchronization would be an issue.

It won't work. I don't exactly know why but D-Box has to re-write the codes again or just tweak them a little for the HD titles.

Thanks. Happy new year. I could have sworn people had it working when the 16 by 9 came out 2 years ago. What a bummer.

It doesn't even work for each SD disc that is available, unless D-Box codes for it. I remember back when (I think it was White Noise) came out, and they released codes for it, and it didn't work. Turns out, the copy they coded for was the disc released in Canada. Identical in almost every way, but still didn't work. When I brought it to their attention, they quickly got the correct disc, and it was working shortly.

I don't know if it make sense to you but the way we are able to recognize a movie it's with the Audio track. Based on this on we create a synchronization track (motion), if this one is altered the title won't be recognize. All of the Media server that do not alter the DVD audio track will work. Problem is some Canadian version have a slight delay just like Pal version (except that one is a lot bigger). So far the Superman English track of the BD was identical to the DVD so it worked right off the bat. As for HD DVD so far what is coming out of the SPDIF output is always different and that's why we cannot synchronize with HDDVD yet. The decoder slightly change the track from loseless to compress audio...

Hi Yannick,

We are on on Wednesday __:30-45 with the entourage.

Mi question is: When you record in hd tivo and the same master was used for the dvd. Why can't the controller reconize it? I thought Phillipe told me it could work back in 2002.

It will if the audio track is exactly the same. Problem is when there is added material or the recording software add some data to the existing content.
