View Full Version : Down Too 2 !!!!!!!!!!Please help....
baddhipp 12-31-06, 06:09 PM Man i'm stressing over this decison, after 1month of research, i'm down to my final 2 TV's for the same price w/stand and 2/yr ext warranty. for $1600
1. Sony "KDF50E2000 "50LCD -I think the PQ was better and Clearer
2. SamsungHL- HLS5686W "56 DLp -Man i would love a "56 tv but the Sammy 46"was right next to it and was much, much clearer........ This one looked kind of cloudy....
can anyony give me some input on my big decison?????
adavis720 12-31-06, 06:42 PM I think these are the two most decided between sets around here. 9 of 10 times the answer is "go to the store and check them out."
Apparntly you don't notice DLP rainbows, so you are good there.
How did you feel about the black level's on the Sony?
Is there a specific feature that one has that you like the the other lacks?
But if you have checked them out and think the Sony looks clearer then I say go for that one. Take it home, love it and forget that you ever saw the other one.
My 2 cents.

Im of cours new to hdtv, what is rainbow effect and is therea big ?? about the sonys black levels?? help me out im trying to learn some of theses terms.. thanks in advanced...
adavis720 12-31-06, 07:31 PM rainbow effect is just that, seeing rainbows while watching a DLP. Again, most people cant see them. I can, but I have to move my eyes back and forth like I am having a sezuire. From what I understand it is less of a problem with newer sets with faster color wheels.
The black level situation with LCD's (not just sonys) is that an LCD panel tends to not have as good black levels as DLP's or CRT's. Screen door effect is another common LCD complaint.
BUT if none of these are things that you noticed, go with your gut and get the one that looked best to you.
rockytt 12-31-06, 08:21 PM Picking a tv is a subjective exercise, there is no "best" one-which is part of the reason we have so many different excellent ones to choose from.
Frankly, the only "wrong" one would be one that didn't have a particular feature that you "needed". Don't get me wrong, I like having my choices verified by others as much as the next person-but if you like the picture on the Sony better, by all means get it. Your friends with Sonys will tell you how smart you are and your friends with Sammys will tell you that you made a mistake :)
dssturbo1 12-31-06, 10:25 PM get the 56 " sammy. those extra 6 inches will make a dfference and give a better viewing experience.
funny guy 12-31-06, 11:56 PM Just make sure you make the right decision for you.
Both have pros and cons, understand them for both sets. LCD's are prone to "burn in", DLP is not. DLP can't hang on a wall, LCD can. Just to name a few.
Researching in many online and in person settings can help eliminate "secrets", the things we have all experienced after making a purchase and regretting it.
Prices are changing almost daily on the sets online. I found an $800 difference in one quick search. Local store sales also come and go this time of the year. This can also affect newer models and you may find these in your price range also.
hookem12387 01-01-07, 01:17 AM LCD's don't get burn in man. Absolutely positively do not. Plasma's can, however. You might want to take in your viewing angle, LCD's will have a wider viewing angle than a DLP. Personally, I have a 42" Sammy DLP and I LOVE it, it was right for me. If you're concerned about a more murky picture on the sammy, take an xbox 360 or a ps3 or a dvd player or something to the store with you and hook it up and compare the pics. Or you could have them do that for you at the store. Feeds in the store can range from poor all over to hit and miss tv to tv

I believe you're a little confused here. The OP is referring to LCD rear-projection, while your statements refer to LCD flat panel displays (i.e. the Sharp Aquos).
adavis720 01-01-07, 10:23 AM Lets clear things up.
1st of all he is refering to a Rear Projection LCD, which cannot be wall mounted.
2nd of all NO LCD's can burn in. Dead pixels yes, but burn in no.
3rd of all there are wall mountable DLP's - the Infocus model, for one.
Baddhip - where are you sitting now, any closer to making a call? Let us know we can help any more, but I think its all been said. It's a personal choice.
TetsujinWave 01-01-07, 11:30 AM I just wanted to be sure he was comparing apples to apples. I am aware of the InFocus and the RCA 720p "thin" DLP sets, but I'm not even sure they're still available as a current product, so I didn't mention them.
adavis720 01-01-07, 11:49 AM Understood. Your post was perfectly clear. I was refering to the one two posts before yours (number 7). Perhaps I should have qouted it.

sup, well i'm still at a stand still until i go to another store that has the SamsungHL- HLS5686W "56 DLp, like i said earlier the " 46 sammy was killing the "56 in PQ, it was so clearer so i just think that the store didnt have the "56 set up correctly or maybe it wasnt hooked up to HD.
As far as the sony HDF50E2000 that always have a great picture, i'm just getting caught up in the bigger TV for the same Price ($1500) i guess.....
adavis720 01-01-07, 06:52 PM The other thing to remember is a larger tv is going to show more imperfections in the picture. YOu should try to get a TV that is approprite for your viewing distance. What is it by the way? I should have asked that first.
ashish87 01-01-07, 07:21 PM I have the same problem with both of the tvs! we think alike haha. where are you going to get these tv's for 1600 with a stand and warranty that's a hell of a deal! I went to 3 different stores to check these out and saw that at Circuit City the sony looked a lot duller as opposed to the samsung DLP it was next to. Next i checked bestbuy and both looked simmilar and i also saw a toshiba that looked nice for less money. Both tv's look excellent, the samsung seems to have a broader spectrum of colors and therfore i'm leaning towards that one. The only problems i have with that set is not knowing how SDtv looks on there, how much a replacement bulb is, and if the bulb is user-replaceable. maybe someone can shed some light on these issues?

sup i got both deals from ABC Warehouse, Yea i know there seet deals too.
the only reason i can get "56 fotr the same price is because i wouldnt get the ABC warhouse EXT warranty, i'll just be using samsungs and before my year is up then i'll be getting a extended with them, so that makes both tv's w/stand for $1600.......
ashish87 01-01-07, 08:52 PM oh that's a very nice deal do you think it's worth it to get the warranty and what are you leaning towards?
