I have a pair of JBL CF150 speakers that would be great speakers but the speakers are very bad with high freq. audio (everything just sounds very low). So I was looking at replacing the tweeters in speakers to help this, maybe get better high range out of them. Below are the specs of the speakers. I'm new to the whole speaker rebuilding thing and I'm looking for some advice/comments.

I was thinking about using the Dayton DC28F-8 1-1/8" silk dome tweeter.
Would that be good/work?

Any other Ideas what I could do to help these speakers?

Specs:
Recommended Power Amplifier Range 10 - 325 watts
Nominal Impedance 8 ohms
Woofer 15" polymer laminate w/cast frame
Midrange Driver 6.5" polymer laminate
Tweeter 1" titanium laminate
Frequency Response 32Hz - 20kHz
Crossover Frequency(ies) 850Hz - 4.5kHz
Sensitivity 98dB (1 watt/1 meter)

This could improve things but probably won't. I have JBL but not this model. The crossover in the JBL is engineered to their speakers. Any other brand,or even other JBL tweeters would probably not match. Changing the crossover would require you to design and build your own. Not for a novice. Are these speakers used? Perhaps the tweeters are blown. I suggest taking one out and hooking just it up to the amp and playing something with a lot of high frequency. If you get no sound then replace with the same JBL tweeter. Check E-bay for the model number. These are some subsitute tweeters that JBL recommends. Check out James B. Lansing Heritage site. I forget the exact URL but google that. There are a lot of JBL nuts there that can help you

No need to remove the tweeter to check it. Play almost anything except a bass drum recording and at lowered volume place you ear next to the tweeter. If it is working you will hear it. Move your ear between the midrange and the tweeter to check. Or play your AVR's setup pink noise. A blown tweeter is easily will cause a clear left vs right difference.

Your speakers are fused. Very often only the tweeters are protected by the fuse. From page 4 of the manual--

Unscrew the
cap labeled "fuse" and replace with a
250V, 5 x 20mm, slow-blow TDS-type fuse:
2.5 Amp for CF120; 3.0 Amp for CF150.

The other post is good advice, though. If the tweeter is not blown and you replace it you will hear a difference in voicing, but it is a crap shoot as to better or worse. The JBL site indicates that no replacement tweeter is available, but their are some good JBL forums around. http://www.lansingheritage.org/
