View Full Version : Mr Bob in Northern VA, February 5th!
Bruce N 12-31-06, 08:06 PM I'm bringing Mr Bob to Northern Va. (Leesburg, to be exact) the week of February 5th. If anyone in this area is interested in his services please let him or me know.
I know he doesn't get to this area very often so folks around here may want to take advantage of this if they can!
All the best!
Bruce

Who is Mr. Bob?
I am. Hi.
:)
I started the thread "Don't Dump your CRT RPTV!" thread here on AVS and elsewhere, and am fervently involved in saving Pioneer Elites, at the Problems with Pioneer 510 thread, also here on the AVS.
You can find me answering queries on several of the Hitachi threads here also.
I am striving to singlehandedly save tons of CRT based RPTVs from the scrap heaps of the world, one by one. And I don't have much time, as they are going down fast, as very few people with a now bleary picture realize that they can be completely restored, to better than new condition, with the first step being simply cleaning up the optics. This takes the bleariness EVERY CRT based RPTV has after a few years and restores it to crystal clear, fully transparent clarity, esp. in the dark areas of your picture. When owners realize their sets are NOT "worn out" after all, but capable of a sizzling, bright and stunning picture almost no matter what their age, we go from there to making your RPTV even better than the fixed pixel units swamping the marketplace out there.
I would be happy with a cal tour that included NOTHING but optics cleaning jobs! But am also here for fullscale, fullservice calibrations, when requested.
Please check me out. I invite that. I have an international reputation as an expert on these issues, and if you do a google on Mr Bob and calibrations (no period in there), you get hits immediately.

Bob will be at my house in Leesburg on Feb 5th. I'll keep him busy for a couple days with both my and a freind's TV, He should be available later in the week. We have not set a return date for him yet so I'm sure there's time available for anyone interested.

Whatcha got?
Just a word here...
Mr Bob came out to my house in Los Gatos just over a year ago and cleaned up and calibrated my Toshiba TN50x81 which was about 8 years old at the time. I couldn't believe how much dust was on the glass over the guns! Also did a repair job on the TV (blue gun was shifting all the way to the left).
After all was said and done, the TV picture was BETTER than almost any new set I've seen. Amazingly bright, clear, crisp, UNBELIEVABLE!
Whatcha got?
RCA R52WH74
I know that RCAs have had their problems but I got this set for a song and dance and just couldnt pass it up...
got it on BF for $464 yep $464 thats not a typo....bought AVIA, did some reading, made some tweaks and i have an unbelievable picture....i wasnt ready to plop down a big chunk of change for a flat screen yet and just wanted a big tv but to my delight i ended up with a big tv with a great picture too...my only wish is that it did 720P(since i own a PS3 that wont upconvert games)
edit: i was told by someone that i might need to go into the service menu to fix the overscan but so far i havent seen a need to do that

RCAs may not have been built with the regular amount of overscan. I have been asked to do so few, I am not up on that.
But it can be checked out very quickly on DVD by using the AVIA overscan pattern. On HD it can be checked by taking in the width and height and seeing how much is actually there, before changing anything permanently .
