i'm going to wire an unfinished home theater room in the next week and i've learned on this site that the brand doesn't matter and that monoprice is a great place to find reasonably priced cables that won't sound different. i'll also make sure to install "in-wall" rated speaker wiring for its insulation properties.

does these statements sound accurate?

do the other video cables (hdmi, component, composite, svideo, vga, coaxial cable) need to be rated for in-wall use or are they all for in-wall use by default?

thanks for the help!

Monoprice does have some CL2 rated HMDI cables in 25' to 100' lengths.

http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10240&cs_id=1024001&p_id=2806&seq=1&format=2&style=

Unfortunaly, I haven't found anything shorter like what I need though. Say in the 3' - 6' range.

OK - I did find some CL2 rated HDMI cables at Blue Jeans in the shorter lengths.

If you ever take the time to read the NEC and the UL Wire and Cable Marking Guide, you will find out that CL2 and CL3 cables are General Purpose cables.

There is nothing special about them.

They are allowed to be installed anywhere except in a riser, duct, or return air plenum.

Since residential construction does not have risers or plenums, as long are you arent installing through your ventilation ducts, you're fine.

if you want to put it in your duct work, use a CL2P, CL3P or a CMP rated cable.
