View Full Version : Conventional Wisdom on Drive Enclosure in 3000 Series Upgrade?

Several years ago I did a two-drive upgrade of my Showstopper 3000 series with great success. I vaguely remember that there was some conventional wisdom as to whether or not to replace the heavy metal drive enclosure or not, and I'm pretty sure that I did NOT do so--don't think it was even possible with the two drive setup. I'm now upgrading my in-laws' Showstopper with a single drive--can't seem to find anybody to sell me that slick little kit to do the two drive upgrade. And maybe they don't need 320 hours or whatever. Anyways, should I leave the new drive open to the air and just tied down to the drive bay, or should I seal it in that heavy metal enclosure (including the dampening sponge thingie)?

I've also got a 200GB drive ($49 at Compusa after rebate--was much cheaper than the 120GB model) , and I know that this series will only recognize the first 137GB. Do I need to use the drive utility to have the drive indicate in the BIOS that is a smaller size than it actually is? Or can I just let the Replay OS take care of it?

Don't seal it down.
Buy some 5 1/4" drive rails for the second drive. With somecreative aligning of things you should be able to get one hole on each side screwed down.

You don't need to do anything with the drive bios utility for the bigger drives - just put them in. They'll be read as 130gb disk.

Thanks, Replay Gurus. EZBake--that's the thing. That cute name came rushing back to me once I read your post.
