View Full Version : Do I need an ISF calibration to get the best shadow detail out of my LCD pj?

I have an Epson TW1000, their new 1080p LCD projector. It has a dual iris system and the new D6 LCD panels. It has a gamma setting that comes preset to 2.2 but is easy to change.

I tend to like my colors a little oversaturated, warm, and probably nowhere close to accurate (blasphemy here, I know), but I would like to get the blacks and shadow detail at the best settings.

I have DVE, but I didn't know if that would be enough to help me get the best shadow detail out of my projector or if I needed an ISF calibrator to do that. I'm afraid that there are going to be too many adjustments available to a novice like me with that gamma setting for example.

Any advice appreciated.

Greetings

No ... just do it yourself. They will only throw up the same pattern and do it too.

Although with their experience (assumes a good calibrator) ... they may find a lot of other things wrong with your set up that you are not aware of.

If you want accuracy, you seek out a calibrator ... if you don't care about that ... then don't bother.

Thanks Michael. That's what I was thinking regarding the accuracy.

If I'm going to do it myself, does anyone have any idea how I should start? I don't think DVE has a setup for gamma, does it? Should I just leave the gamma at 2.2? And if not, would I set the gamma first, and then start the brightness and contrast setup?

EDIT: Is DVE just as good at calibrating for blacks and shadow detail as anything else?
