View Full Version : Need Denon 1803 code for Comcast DVR remote.
NormanB 01-01-07, 02:40 PM I have spent hours searching for this code. It is a fairly common receiver, yet Comcast does not offer a code for it? I just want to be able to power it on & maybe adjust the volume for crying out loud! Any help would be appreciated otherwise I will spend the $20 for a Sony VL600. Not sure if I can program a "favorite channels" button though. Thanx in advance.
Kupakai 01-01-07, 06:02 PM Which remote do you have? Is it this one (http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/How_to_use_a_Motorola_DVR/Programming_the_Remote)? If it is, did you already try AUX/1360? Did any of the buttons work?
NormanB 01-01-07, 10:55 PM Yes, that's the remote. I just tried 1360...no luck.. No on/off or volume control atleast. Thanx for your efforts. Any other #'s I should try?
Kupakai 01-01-07, 11:32 PM As a test, see if you can do this.
1. Set the AUX to 1360 (make sure AUX button blinks twice after setting to confirm)
2. press AUX
3. press (not hold) SETUP
4. point remote to receiver and press 01977
Does it turn off or on?
You can try 01973 for volume up and 01909 for volume down. If it works, I'll show you how to assign those to buttons. If not, sorry, I'm out of tricks.
NormanB 01-02-07, 01:03 AM Interestingly enough, it controlled my inputs on the Denon. Every # was a different audio input. Seems like we are heading in the right direction.. Did you see that Fiesta Bowl? What a game!
Kupakai 01-02-07, 09:48 AM Missed the game, but wish I had watched it!
I didn't expect the result (the remote, not the game :) ), but if you want to try to continue with this, you can tell me what each code activated and I can try to figure out what's going on. By the way, if you are wondering (and so you know I not just giving you random numbers :) ), I'm getting the codes from "EFC5" column on this:

which is from an upgrade file at the JP1 remote control site (http://www.hifi-remote.com/ofa/), but it's for slightly different protocol which is not built in to your remote. Device 1360 should have been an equivalent protocol, but maybe not quite.
NormanB 01-02-07, 11:03 PM O.K. Kupakai- My remote is only recognizing 1 digit commands for the Denon
0=Analog
1=virt DVD
2=nothing
3=tuner
4=tv/DBS, in+D Opt1,6 channel stereo TV
5=in V aux, in=D opt, 6channel stereo aux
6= in phono, stereo phono
7= in VCR1, stereo VCR1
8= in CD, channel stereo cd
9= in CDR/tape, stereo tape
the comma represents my system scrolling to another function, Wierd.
Should I just step up for the Sony or Harmony? :(
Thanx again for all of your help, you have gone above & beyond...
to get the VOL commands:
1. aux
2. press and hold SETUP for two blinks
3. enter 9-9-3
4. press VOL DOWN
Kupakai 01-03-07, 12:33 AM to get the VOL commands:
1. aux
2. press and hold SETUP for two blinks
3. enter 9-9-3
4. press VOL DOWN
Aaah, didn't ask to check that :o
Norman, when you press the volume keys, does the "TV" button light come on? If it does, do the steps Edmund outlined. After that procedure, the "AUX" button light should come on when you press the volume keys (and the volume should work for the receiver).
NormanB 01-03-07, 01:19 PM At work right now, not going home tonight, but will try this out tomorrow night. You guys rock! :)
NormanB 01-07-07, 10:17 PM With the 993 advice, the remote is now able to control the volume on my Denon receiver! Thanx! If I could only turn the Denon off with this remote I would be a happy couch potato! Any more thoughts? :D
Kupakai 01-07-07, 10:25 PM Is the power button turning it on right now, and just not off, or is it just doing nothing?
NormanB 01-07-07, 10:42 PM Won't turn it on or off.... :(
Kupakai 01-07-07, 11:03 PM From the chart I gave you before (above), Advanced code "01981" should be power on and "01917" should be power off for the device 1360. So, try this:
1. Press AUX
2. Press and hold SETUP (wait for two blinks)
3. Enter 9-9-4 (wait for two blinks)
4. Press SETUP (don't hold it)
5. Enter 0-1-9-8-1
6. Press "POWER" (will blink twice to confirm)
7. Press and hold SETUP (wait for two blinks)
8. Enter 9-9-4 (wait for two blinks)
9. Press SETUP (don't hold it)
10. Enter 0-1-9-1-7
11. Press SETUP (don't hold it)
12. Press "POWER" (will blink twice to confirm)
That should assign ON to "POWER" button and OFF to SHIFT-"POWER" (shift is press SETUP let go and then the button). If you'd rather set them to other keys, you can just replace the keys in the above instruction (step 6 and steps 11 and 12). Don't do step 11 if you don't want shifted keys. Also, you can reassign most keys, but not all. Some are reserved to always activate other devices (for example the arrow keys). Another suggestion for the set of ON/OFF keys you might want to use instead is "PIP CH+" and "PIP CH-" at the bottom.
NormanB 01-07-07, 11:32 PM You are my hero! Denon goes on just by hitting "power" & off when I hit "setup" then "power". Simple enough! Thank you so much for your time & patience. I hope others with Denons & Comcast DVR will benefit as well. Happy New Year! -Norm
sharmaswapnil 07-18-07, 03:20 PM Hi,
I recently bought a Denon Home Theater - DHT 487DV and trying to configure Comcast HD Digital Cable box (Motorola model) using the Denon remote control. The code I have tried is - 476 (mentioned at hi fi remote link was 0476 but Denon remote accepts 3 digits so I dropped the leading zero)
Alternatively, I also tried to configure the Universal remote provided by Comcast to control my AV receiver but in vain too. The codes that I have tried are - 1104 and 1360
Please suggest a solution to control my components by either methods.
Thanks in advance!
Swapnil
NormanB 07-18-07, 03:50 PM I have no more information than above. The Comcast will turn my Denon on & off, that's about it. You may need to check out the $100 + universal remotes. Good luck!
Or you can check out using a one-for-all remote ($20 or so). These JP1-able remotes can be made to control anything.

For the Denon remote, try codes for Jerrold or General Instrument from the Denon manual. Different remote manufactures will have different codes for devices so 0476 only applies to remotes from UEI (like One for All and some cable remotes).

Did the receiver respond to any keys with setup code AUX/1360? Denon tends to be fairly consistant with their ir codes. Did you try some of the steps above?

Actually, the Comcast remote (URC-1067) is also a JP1-able (JP1.x) remote as well and has enough memory to add decent amount of programming.

None of the codes worked !!

I am following the steps as mentioned in an earlier reply -
1 Find the 4-digit code number for your device.
2 Manually turn on the device you are setting the code for (used to verify you have the proper code).
3 Press and release the device key you want to program.
4 Press and hold the "Setup" key until device key blinks twice.
5 Type in the 4-digit code using the number keys.
6 If successful, you will get 2 blinks. If not successful, you get one long blink.
I am ending up with a long blink and none of the functions work.
sharmaswapnil 07-19-07, 03:01 PM I called up Denon Customer Support to check the codes for Comcast Box. Looks like they do not have any codes available.
[All that they support is listed at the back of the manual, Comcast is missing !]
Is the Comcast remote not JP-1 capable? If so, you should be able to solve your issues that way for a small investment.
Otherwise, get a Harmony and kill two birds with one remote! Harmony remotes use a database of 175,000+ devices from 5,000+ brands, not codes and, for most people, are very easy to use. This would replace ALL of your old remotes with just one.
