Hi All,
I had an issue I was hoping to get some feedback on. I've had my 5687W DLP for about 2 weeks now, all is good until this little glitch today.
When I turned on the set, the image looked washed out. It had a lot of banding -- it basically looked like it was compressed a hundred times over, or that I was looking at a 256 color display. I figured it was an issue with the SDTV channel I was watching.
I then switched to Discovery HD Theater (I'm on Time Warner, w/ an HD DVR). Surprisingly, I noticed the same banding. The same effect on HDMI vs Component, so I then switched to PC and fired up the XBOX, and sure enough, the same banding was easily evident on the splash screen. (In fact, on all the menu screens, since they are just color washes so the banding is easily evident.)
The best way to describe the effect is like I was looking at a 256 color display. Clearly the issue was with the TV. I turned off the unit, waited about 5 minutes, and turned it back on, and it seems fine...
Any ideas on what happened? Obviously there's no point for a service call but I want to watch out for potential issues... The TV was on in the morning just fine, had been off for about 4 hours, then this happened.
Thanks! And happy new year!
Brian
