View Full Version : Custom Teater Voiceover Volume 3

********************************************************

The read is done. I'm prepping the files now.
I'll let everyone know when I'm done.

Here's a sample (http://tinstudio.com/files/v3sample.mp3)

********************************************************

Quotes are in. The final price is - $30 via Download - $33 via USPS

Bob will do the read instead of Greg

Bob will be reading volumes 1-3 in one shot

Only those participating in volume 3 will be entitled to a copy of all 3 volumes at this cost

I will be posting a revised script in the next day or 2 that includes all the lines.

*******************************************************

Our third installment!

We will be doing another round of custom voiceovers for use in your home theater. Here's the deal.

1. You are allowed to ad your theater name and 30 words of custom lines.

For example:

(theater name) - The Jedi Theater
(custom words) - Come to the dark side and feast at our imperial snackbar.

2. If you have any lines that you feel others may like, post them and I'll add them to the generics.

Note: We our going to try and make sure nothing from volume 1 or 2 is repeated. The exception to the rule will be anything

that didn't come out right in previous volumes or if there is a specific request for a different inflection. If you have one of these

requests, please send them via email and I will add it to the script.

You can find the scripts for Vol 1 and 2 posted in the first message of these threads

Link to Volume 1 Thread (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=711484)

Link to Volume 2 Thread (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=726317)

3. Send an email to htvoiceover@gmail.com with your real name, AVS screen name and a short msg letting me know you want in.

If you know your custom lines right away, send them too.

4. Don't pay yet. I will let you know when.

5. Cost. This is a though one. After our last 2 reads the narrator wants more money. The only way to keep the costs down on this read is to

keep the script short and the participants high. This may not be a problem becasue we have so much stuff in the the generics list already.

If in the end the narrator's final price is to high, I have a backup narrator. He quoted a price for the other volumes at about 1/4 -1/3

the cost. If we can't afford the original narrator we can have the new guy read all 3 volumes and it will still come out a bit less. I will

be making that decission after we close the list and get the quote from original narrator.

6. When the read is complete, you will have the choice of download or having a CD sent via USPS.

7. HAVE FUN WITH THIS.

Like last time, I will filter the script so that we keep within the scheduled narration session.

Let me know if you have any questions and let the fun begin =)

FAQs:

Q: Are all volumes included with volume 3?
A: No. All volumes are seperate. You are paying for the custom lines. All generics should be considered as a bouns. This is how volumes 1

and 2 were done and this is how it will continue.

A friendly reminder, the last person to leave there cell phone on in here was stripped down, thrown in a barrell full of rusty thumb tacks,

and rolled up and down every hill in San Francisco. Enjoy the show!
A story this big can only be told on a screen this size.
Attention! This theater features the startling new multi-dimension of SENSURROUND. please be aware that you will feel as well as see and

hear realistic effects such as might be experienced in real life.
Geesh, I don’t get paid enough for this (fading off)…huh, what? (full volume again) Oh, ahh, just commenting on what a nice place you have

sir.
Good evening and welcome to Flicks in the Sticks. Please grab your yard monkies and sit em down, the show is about to begin.
In a world where most humans choose to walk in the sun on the weekends, one family chooses to dwell in darkness. And you may be next. Join

them any weekend, in a home theater near you.
In a world where people still watch standard definition television, one family says "no more." This weekend, you are invited to be a part

of the high definition home theater experience.
In a world where prices are high and popcorn is stale, one small cinema stood up against the corporate megaplexes to produce an

extraordinary theater going experience.
Sorry we are unavailable to take your call. If you will leave your name, phone number and the time of your call, we will get right back to

you.
The following is a public service announcement for the hearing impaired, presented to you by Marcel Marceau. {pause} Thank you Monsieur

Marceau.
The management assumes no responsibility for the physical or emotional reactions of the individual viewer.
The white zone is for immediate loading and unloading of passengers only. There is no stopping in a red zone. - of viewers only - of

patrons only
This is the true story of an ordinary man, who made an extraordinary home theater. Join us in a theater that critics are calling "sweet"

and "freekin' awesome." The Times writes, "You don't have to worry about cell phones or annoying strangers. Four stars." And the Daily

Globe reports "A life changing experience. They have a real popcorn maker and everything. Totally pimped out." {pause to insert custom

theater name}, a "freekin' awesome" experience.
We apologize. We are currently experiencing technical difficulties. Our movie will resume shortly.
Welcome to the Magic theater's Slaughter Film Fest. Grab a fist full of popcorn, a chilling beverage and don't forget the barf bag.
You thought they were the average American family. With a normal car. Normal lawn. Normal kids. Well you were wrong, dead wrong. This

weekend, {pause to add custom theater name or family name} invites you to witness what you have been missing out on you entire life - the

home theater experience. You may never leave.

Just a thought..... would it be possible to have him read the names of the equipment/manufactures that you've created the graphics for in the other thread? I think this would be great and would take care of almost everyone's equipment in one batch.

I don't think the link to the second read thread is working.

I'm going to let this one run for at least a month. I think that will give people enough time to get on the list. I don't want to miss anyone this time around.

daimion
01-04-07, 12:05 AM
I just came across this thread - sounds like a very cool idea! One question - for someone like me who is looking at coming in late to the party, is there a way to get the generics from the first two volumes, along with volume three and the custom lines?

mheadroom
01-09-07, 07:50 PM
Looks like interest is pretty low this time around. I will continue to keep the list open until the end of the month. If we don't have enough participants I'll try negotiating with the narrator or possibly use a different narrator. i will let everyone know at the end of the month.

jeffczyz
01-09-07, 08:24 PM
I just caught onto this thread. I've used some commercial effects and voiceover talent before and these are really good. Quite impressive.

I'm going to dig through the other volumes and maybe add these to my collections.

Gotta love the Juice ;)

I almost used one of those tracks on the halloween intro. The intro is just something a whipped together last second for the forum members.

Oh yeah... DJ has saved me quite a few times. I do use their stuff a bit, but have found that other than the music, I can create everything else in After Effects for a fraction of the price....

Good stuff none-the-less

Video is about 10% of my workload so the DJ library has been invaluable to me. I never seem to have the time to put something together so I grab a few ETK and JB and whip stuff up. Oh to have the time. :D

I'm in. Just been busy with a new Dell XPS 710 to notice the thread. Sending e-mail shortly.

My preference is still the new guy and read all 3.

rickfritz
01-13-07, 06:48 PM
Q: Are all volumes included with volume 3?
A: No. All volumes are seperate. You are paying for the custom lines. All generics should be considered as a bouns. This is how volumes 1 and 2 were done and this is how it will continue.

Why not include the generics from vol 1 and 2 since the other participants didn't pay for them anyway. You could make the generics from all 3 vol avail to all the participants for download. I know the main thing holding me back is that all the good generics were already done in vol 1 & 2. Doing this may help generate more interest in vol 3.

Of course if you use the new guy it won't matter anyway, as we will get all 3 vols. Right?

Lumpy69

Ummm WE did PAY for all the generics on 1 & 2. Why should you get them for free?

When you buy a car they don't throw in last years model for free do they? ;)

volley
01-13-07, 08:18 PM
I am assuming that vol 1 and 2 will still be available for purchase for those of us that are just getting into it now. So you can buy all the generics with the same voice. Correct?

I am interested in the new guy just because I think he sounds better IMHO.

rickfritz
01-13-07, 08:53 PM
Lumpy,

According to the OP you are just paying for the custom lines and the generics are just a bonus. Many times when you buy a car and the sales are slow they throw in a bonus.

mheadroom
01-13-07, 09:50 PM
There are 3 reasons for not giving away volumes 1 and 2:

1. Those who participated in 1 and 2 did pay for them. It's only fair that everyone pays

2. If everyone who participated in volume 3 would get the files from 1 and 2 then i would have volume 3 to those who participated in 1 and 2. This wouldn't leave many people and everyone's price would go up. Most likely it would be more than just buying volumes 1 and 2. Look at the lists and see how many people have participated in each volume.

3. Extra money is used to fund the website and other projects. Downloading 2 extra sets will put a hit on the bandwidth.

I'm not sure how I want to handle it if we use Bob for volume 3. I will tell you this though, there is no way I am going to prep 3 volumes of files the way I did with volumes 1 and 2.

I don't do this to make money. I have all the lines I want. I'm doing this because others want custom lines. The generics are available if anyone wants to buy them but as I said, the real value is the custom lines.

This argument was brought up by 2 people during volume 2. They said volume 2 would be worthless because all the good lines were in volume 1. In the end I think volume 2 was better than volume 1.

But all this is moot. In the end, it is the way it is. If those who bought in on volume 1 and 2 want volume 3, they need to pay and vice versa.

Im interested yet again :)

By the way guys, I missed doing custom lines for Vol 1. I got in on Vol 2 and paid regular price for Vol. 1. I'm happy with both.

Put me down for Vol. 3 I'll put up my lines later. Cant think of anything off the top of my head atm.

I'm in. I emailed. I asked you this question in the email, but I thought I'd post it here too.

If we don't get the first 2 volumes, then why can't we repeat some of the generic terms from those sets?

mheadroom
01-22-07, 06:20 AM
The are a number of reasons not to repeat lines.

1. The cost of the read is based on the length of the script. By not rereading lines we keep the price somewhat manageable.

2. People who participated in vol 1 and 2 already have the lines. If we repeat them, then those people are not receiving anything for their money and may not participate. This again will drive up costs.

3. By not repeating the lines we expand the usefulness of the entire set. This gives people the chance to have unique lines read that can be combined with the other sets. Things like the manufacturer names. Having unique sets once again drives participation.

4. This is how it was done for volumes 1 and 2 and it will continue this way.

It would be nice to know what the new guy would sound like. I wouldn't mind paying a bit more to keep the original guy if he is the best sounding (I Like him!)....but its hard to make that determination without hearing the potential new guy.

Wow...what a difference between the two. If you don't mind I put a small comparison mp3 together using the file you posted above and spliced in the original voiceovers so its easy to compare the two voices. I'll post it here but if you want me to remove it thats fine.

Anyway, I like the first guy best and would be willing to pay a little extra to have him record vol. 3. But I would also be willing to pay for the second guy to re-record the three volumes because it is such a different feeling you get from his readings (more serious and subdued). It would be great to be able to use either voice depending on what youre using it for or for the simple fact that you may get sick of the same voice over and over.

KorCar1

Personally, I'd rather pay a little more and have the original guy do it. I guess it all depends on what "a little more" actually is.

mheadroom
01-25-07, 10:29 PM
Yes they are very different.

I had gotten a quote from Bob when we were working on volume 1. He was cheaper than Greg but in the end I took a vote and Greg won out.

That's why it makes it tough now. The longer we use Greg the harder it is to switch.

I would like to have used Bob because he works from home and I may be able to get him to set up a deal. Like $25 for a few custom lines at any time. This would allow people to get their lines whenever they want instead of the "power buy" model.

Thanks for the comparison, it helps quite a bit. Overall I still like the more serious action/drama movie sound of Bob. And I agree, I think having both you can change the sound up every now and then which is nice or even change depending on the type of movie you are showing. If we do go with Bob, I think I may change my custom reading just to match the voice better.

okay this is how I'm going to do it. There are one of 2 possibilities:

1. We have Greg read the volume 3 lines and everyone in this list pays their share towards the cost.

2. We have Bob read all the lines from vol 1-3. Everyone in this list pays their share of the cost. Everyone in this list gets a copy. If you don't participate in volume 3 you aren't entitled to a copy. That's it.

The only reason to have volume 1 and 2 reread is to save cost. Greg's current asking price is high and Bobs is low. So it may be cheaper to have Bob reread everything and use him from this point forward. Those who participated in volume 1 and 2 but not 3 have no reason to have access to the rereads. They have everything they need. If they want access to volume 3, then they must participate. I think this is fair.

Won't know until I get the quote. I just know from last time, Grag was 3x the cost of Bob and the studio said Greg would want more $ next time becase the scripts were so long. It looks like this script is going to be shorter so the price should be the same if not less. I'll know the total after I get the quotes.

Andy238
01-28-07, 09:15 PM
Since I didn't get into this until now, option 2 sounds good to me as well. Heck with 25 bucks a head and 22 people... we could be at $550 so far...

mheadroom
01-28-07, 09:38 PM
We're going to need more than that. I'm not sure the cost of Greg's read, but Bob's reading of all 3 volumes will probably be around $800. That covers just the read. Then there's disc, cases and shipping or at least bandwidth. The nice thing is Bob's price would include corrections.

Gregs prices work out a bit different because there is studio time, phone patch and talent to be calculated. Also the studio has said that the last 2 times the price was too low and it would go up next time. We'll also have to pay for any corrections from Greg.

You also have to assume not everyone will pay. In both the past 2 volumes there were people who signed up but then decided against it at the last minute. I always figure about 10% won't participate of those who have signed up.

All these numbers are estimates based on past experience with Greg and Bob. Don't let this deter you. I have a couple other options up my sleeves and who knows, the real quotes might be less. We'll know sometime next week.

In the meantime, please get you lines to me ASAP. I need to have a final script before I get the quote.

...but only when they're fresh. There's nothing worse than a hard swedish fish.

OK, I'm torn here. I thought when we originally voted on who to get, I prefered Bob. I wasn't completely thrilled with the results from Greg, but they ARE really good. The nice thing about Vol 1 and Vol 2 is that you can mix and match. And I think the generics on those two are much more, well....generic. Going with a different voice on vol 3 kind of limits what you can do. But I like Bob's voice better.

So, I recon that if there were a complete re-read of 1&2, I'd be interested in 3, even though there only a couple of really generic lines that I might use. If there IS a re-read, I'd like to get some of the connecting words redone. For instance, the word "and." Read in a flat connecting way..."John and Mary." Then in a more excited kind of way..."popcorn, candy AND soda!" I think that gives you a LOT of flexibility in what you can put together.

So like an earlier poster, I'm not ready to commit until I know if there will be a complete re-read and a ballparkl of what it might cost.

Again, thanks for all your work on this. I can see what a headache this one has been.

Tom

Tom, I agree. Personally I would have rather gone with Bob from the get go. But the vote didn't go that way. I love Gregs reads and am happy, but Bob would have been easier to deal with.

I am hoping to keep the price low here and I understand if people don't want to participate because the lack of content. I'm going to push off the quote request until Monday. They are completely different than gummi bears. They have a different texture and flavor. Go to your local supermarket or Walmart and pick up a bag to try. If they are fresh...they are great. If they arent fresh...they are tough to chew. They are my favorite candy of all time. My father used to buy them for me at the candy store in the mall when I was growing up in the 80's.

Don't know if there will be time in the script, but wanted to add this to see what you had to say...what about having some fake trailer lines...something fun like dialogue to an action movie trailer...but a little over the top for comedic purposes...for example:

"In a world where most humans choose to walk in the sun on the weekends, one family chooses to dwell in darkness. And you may be next. Join them any weekend, in a home theater near you."

Ok, that kinda sucks, but there has to be some funny ideas out there that could be fun.

As for your trailer scrit, this is exactly what we should put in here! IF anyone has anything like this that they would like to add, POST IT!

Lines like these are what should make this read unique! Each read has something special in it. I can't tell you how many people participated in volume 1 because of a single line:

"and keep your hands off my daughter"

mheadroom,
Add me to the list of those that are interested. I figure one more to the list might help the cost structure. If there is still time for lines mine are below. I saw a reference to Monday being the deadline does that still hold true?

Best regards
Don

I am intersted and will email my custom lines later today. Please count me in. I thought that some good generics would be remote control commands. I looked over my touchscreen remote and came up with the list below. I think that a few of the words may have been found in some other phrases, but thought it might be a good idea to have a set of common remote control commands I'm guessing these would be pretty common to just about all remotes...and one could do some really cool stuff integrating these into a control system.

Doc,
I'm going to send out for quote tomorrow so if you can get me your lines today, that would be great.

barhoram,
I'll add those but I actually have a Home Automation VO disc that I created for myself. It's more robust. Here's a script and some smaples. Let me know what you think.

Home Automation Script (http://www.tinstudio.com/files/ha_script.txt)

Home Automation Sample - Regular (http://www.tinstudio.com/files/ha_sample_regular.mp3)

Home Automation Sample - Chorus (http://www.tinstudio.com/files/ha_sample_chorus.mp3)

Home Automation Sample -
Dry (http://www.tinstudio.com/files/ha_sample_dry.mp3)

Some ideas for generics:

(to be played after a very loud Dolby Digital or DTS trailer...)

"Well, that was awesome."
"Oooooooohhhh, that sounded nice."
"Well, well, well, look who spent a lot of money on a home theater system."
"OK. So now my ears are ringing."
"Dang, that was loud." (Damn would be better but I have kids and don't know the rules about stuff like that here...)

And here's another one for after your home theater name -

"Where it's safe. It's quiet. And you don't have to sit through The Twenty."

(Don't know if that joke is regional or not, but at our theaters in town here you've got twenty minutes of commercials before the feature, called the twenty. Actually it might even be better to just say "sit through twenty minutes of commercials.")

Do any of these work? I just want to know because I'm not sure if I want to use up my whole 30 words with these.

For sure I want:

"the Hull Family Theater"
"Hull Family Theaters"

I'm not sure if could mix "Theaters" instead of theater with the previous - basically I'm stressing out about finding the right name for my home theater so I just want to cover all my bases.

Any feedback on the above would be great, and I'll have my final script after the Big Game.

no worries. those would all be generics.

Ahhh, I get it you get theater name, and 30 words personal in ADDITION to any generics...OK

some of these may be too cheesey, but some are fun - take what you like...

You thought they were the average American family. With a normal car. Normal lawn. Normal kids. Well you were wrong, dead wrong. This weekend, (pause to add custom theater name or family name) invites you to witness what you have been missing out on you entire life - the home theater experience. You may never leave.

In a world where people still watch standard definition television, one family says "no more." This weekend, you are invited to be a part of the high definition home theater experience.

A story this big can only be told on a screen this size.

This is the true story of an ordinary man, who made an extraordinary home theater. Join us in a theater that critics are calling "sweet" and "freekin' awesome." The Times writes, "You don't have to worry about cell phones or annoying strangers. Four stars." And the Daily Globe reports "A life changing experience. They have a real popcorn maker and everything. Totally pimped out." (pause to insert custom theater name), a "freekin' awesome" experience.

A friendly reminder, the last person to leave there cell phone on in here was stripped down, thrown in a barrell full of rusty thumb tacks, and rolled up and down every hill in San Francisco. Enjoy the show!

JRH,
Yup. If your lines can work for others then I use them as generics. If the lines are themed towards your own theater then they are custom. Many people just throw in a couple of custom lines and don't use the whole 30 becasue their lines work well as genrics.

Biggie,
Love em. Add'n em!

Max,

Were the Home Automation reads a part of the other volumes? I knew you had some Home Automation stuff, but the list you posted looked much bigger. I just sent you an email with my custom lines.

Thanks - Andrew

The Home Automation stuff was not part of any volume. It was something I had read for my own use. I had planned on offering this disc sometime in the future if I found any interest.

The quotes are in!

Here's the final - $30 for download - $33 for shipped via USPS.

We will be using Bob and he will be reading all 3 volumes. If we were to go with Greg it would cost each person $65 for just volume 3 so we will not be using Greg.

I will be posting a final script in the next day or 2. It will include everything! If you are still waiting to get me lines, DON'T! Get them to me now.

You can make paypal payments to htvoiceover@gmail.com. Please remember to include your AVS screen name. If you want the disc shipped, please include your address also.

Since this script will be huge, it will take me a while to cut up all the files and it will be a huge pain. Would you all rather wait for the files or just get the raw reads and cut them up yourself?

It's likely to take me over 6 hours of work (2 weeks of free time) to cut up the files and name them. I know I said I wouldn't be cutting them up but i know myself and i will do it for my own purposes. The benefit of cutting up the files is that we will have a list of everything that needs to be fixed.

Please give me your feedback on this issue.

Great I'll send you payment right now. I would like the files already cut up. I dont mind pitching in an extra $5 for your effort to cut them up. Doing all three volumes seems like a pretty hefty project for you.

If I could still be added to the list, I would be very grateful. I've sent you a PM with my custom lines, just in case.

I would also prefer for the files to be cut up.

It would be awesome to have the files cut up. If you decide to do the legwork, I will definitely add some extra $$ to the paypal because it is no easy task and you have already done so much.

[B]We will be using Bob and he will be reading all 3 volumes. If this has been posted before, please forgive me, but I read through the other threads and didn't see it answered.

I know that Greg is the Fox News voice-over guy, but do you have a credit list for Bob? His voice sounds familiar, but I sure can't place it.

Thanks,

Scott

I'm glad you went with Bob, I actually preferred his voice over Gregg's.

I'm also interested in the cut-up files, I would be willing to pay $5-$10 extra.

This may sound like a weird (dumb) question, but will the download files be in the same format as the shipped CD? In other words, will they be compressed or modified to accommodate downloading from the Internet (i.e. Due to download bandwidth limits where you might be hosting the files)?

Thanks again... I really appreciate you taking the initiative to make this happen.

:D

Once again it sounds as if you have outdone yourself. Many thanks for the time and effort to spearhead this project. Looking forward to this version as well.

Ok so here's some answers.

1. Bob has done a ton of radio work over the years so it is possible you might have heard him before.

2. Bob will be rereading everything, including the custom lines.

3. I'll chop the files since everyone seems to want them. As I said it will take longer to deliver but Bob will be quick to get me the files so it shouldn't take more than 2 weeks (probably less). I'm not asking for anything for this work but feel free to donate only if you can afford it and wish to. :)

4. the files will be the same files regardless of download or CD. They will be 48k Wav Mono files.

I think that's everything.

And I'll be pitching in an extra $5 for the time and efforts of Mr. Headroom !!

I knoiw it's a lot of effort but chopped files would be great. There will be a little something extra in your paycheck ;)

Jason,

If you are still taking late-comers, I'm in for Volume 3, particularly since it includes the re-read of Vol 1 and 2 (which I already have). Just call me a completist. :)

I will Paypal you the cashola as per the last two times once I verify that you are still taking orders from people. I also need to check the scripts to make sure the key words I need are there.

Thanks again and regs,
Jeff
