I just read all the messages on this board and to be honest it was all greek to me. I have a dedicated home theater with no windows (control of ambient light). I have little money to spend so I shopped for the biggest bang for my money. I brought a Samsung SP-H710AE for $1700 versus the Mitsubischi HC5000 for $3800. It is a 720p versus 1080p projector. For the cost savings I sacrificed the higher resolution (I wonder if anyone will even know). Plus I really liked the reviews on the Samsung. It suits my purpose as a projector for a dedicated, dark room to watch dvd movies. Then I shopped for sound... I hope I don't lose anyone but I went with the Bose lifestyle 38 system for $1995. For the price it wasn't worth trying to upgrade it. Plus the 2 roommate speakers for the adjoining billiards room and poker room was perfect! It has a progressive scan dvd with no dvi or hdmi (it's crap). I only want to scale up my Bose dvd & satellite signal to 720p. Could a video scaler such as the $400 Geffen one do the trick or what would you pros recommend? Do I even need a scaler?
Thanks
Kitten

You could get an Oppo DVD player that will upconvert to 720p. The Oppos are great DVD players and you'll get a nice de-interlacer/scaler by Faroudja built right in for about 200.

Thanks for the reply, $200 sounds even better. Great forum.

Or you may find the Samsung upconverts at least as well as a dvd player.

Boy did I NOT have a clue! My projector was refurbished, sold as new, and broke out of the box. Wish i spent more time on this forum BEFORE buying!
Thanks for the responses everyone.
