View Full Version : G-Wii-tar Hero?
harveybirdman 01-02-07, 11:49 AM I've heard differing accounts of when we're getting a version of Guitar Hero. Some reports say we're getting GH2 this Spring, others say nothing for Wii until GH3 late this year.
Is it worth picking up a cheap PS2 just for GH and GH2? If they make us wait for GH3, will we ever see Wii ports of the first two games (both of which have tremendous soundtracks)?
TheMerk 01-02-07, 12:07 PM Forget Guitar Hero. After playing Rayman I'm convinced that Drum Hero would be the big hit on the Wii.
SpeedyHTPC 01-05-07, 03:11 PM It'll be interesting to see GH anything for Wii since RedOctane is in bed with Sony. Yes the Xbox people are lucky to see it but not sure about Wii.
jasonstiller 01-06-07, 09:23 PM i need a good drumming game for Wii, ive seen stuff from e4 and tgs but have never seen anything officially.
Gamedev123 01-07-07, 07:07 AM Isn't there an Orchestra Conductor game coming out? Should be a nice counterpoint to Guitar Hero, whether or not GH comes out for the Wii.
SpeedyHTPC 02-11-07, 04:03 AM Sounds like Activision President said they will he concentrating on the Wii and Guitar Hero will be one of the titles..
Whether the Wii to some have bad graphics or having the remote as a novelty or whatever, threads about sales are banned here, etc, game publishers are watching the sales of the Wii and are rethinking about joining the party. Which is good for all Wii..
IGN talked about this in their weekly podcast. One of the interesting ideas they had was that the guitar could be a shell for the wii remote making it wireless, and much, much cheaper to make. That would be cool. I have a 360 and after hearing so much about this game I was tempted to pick it up, but not for $100!!
Mitch G 02-11-07, 11:52 AM Regardless, I want to be able to shake/rock the guitar to make the sound do that wah-wah thing you see/hear with real electric guitars. :)

SpeedyHTPC 02-11-07, 04:06 PM Um building on the remote as a guitar would be either too small or flimsy. Reminds me of the golf club, tennis attachment from Niko.
Kil4Thril 02-11-07, 09:03 PM Guitar Heroes IS coming...but what makes you think they'll use the Wiimote? I'll bet it'll have its own guitar just like the other systems, but it should be able to add in the Wii specific controls like shaking and such. It may even show the direction you're holding the guitar- like Nugent or Dimebag playing with the neck aimed vertically- something like that.
The idea for the guitar that I think people are discussing is basically a full guitar like the other games, but with a slot in the bottom into which you plug the Wii remote. Inside the slot, the guitar would have a connector for the port in the bottom of the Wii remote (the same port the nunchuk uses), and the guitar would use the remote's tilt sensor and Bluetooth connection to save cost. It might also gain features that the standalone guitars don't have, like multidirectional tilt sensing and the tiny little speaker. The main problem is that, AFAIK, no third parties have made peripherals that plug into that port on the bottom of the remote, and it is unclear whether Nintendo allows third parties to do that.
SpeedyHTPC 02-12-07, 06:54 PM Ah i mis-read. Yes a guitar shell that the remote can plug into..now thats a great idea.
What would you do with multidirectional tilt sensing in Guitar Hero? Unless you get bonus points for thrashing, heh. I think they'll have release the normal (wireless) Guitar.
Its definitely coming now that Activision is in control though.
Ferris409 02-12-07, 11:13 PM If you're going to have a guitar shell, you might as well do the entire guitar as its been done for the other consoles. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. If the buttons on the guitar make sense, no need to force them into the configuration of the wiimote.
SpeedyHTPC 02-13-07, 01:05 AM When I read joekun's post, thats what I thought. How are you going to make a guitar out of the remote's buttons? that wont work. So I guess plugging in the remote's only function is to use the wireless. But why? just add wireless to the guitar. I agree, the guitar formular on the ps2 and others arent broken but then I guess we're talking about $150 for the game.

You don't need to force them into any type of configuration. The nunchuck doesn't use the same buttons as the remote, it has its own buttons. This guitar shell would as well, it wouldn't need to use the wii remote's buttons whatsoever. But by using the wii remote it wouldn't need to have its own wireless transmitter/receiver, and it would be much cheaper to make.

First of all I don't think any version of Guitar Hero comes with a wireless guitar, you have to buy it separately (haven't really looked into this, but I think it's a safe assumption). Second, it would be nice not to have to have a transmitter that plugs into one of the gamecube ports. Third, it would be nice to have the game at a reasonable price and the wii remote seems designed for just this sort of thing.
It was an idea that came up on IGN's podcast and I thought it was a pretty cool one.
dagware 02-13-07, 02:04 PM There's already a precedent. The Classic Controller doesn't have built-in wireless -- it plugs into the wiimote and uses that to communicate with the Wii. It doesn't use any of the motion sensors or anything else -- just the communication portion.
So I think it makes perfect sense to build the guitar in such a way as to use the wiimote for communication. And probably the best way to do that would be to insert the wiimote into a slot in the guitar. Of course they don't *have* to do it this way, but it certainly seems reasonable.

Another advantage of having the Wii remote in a slot at the base of the guitar is that the developers could use its speaker. It is crackly and bad, but that would be perfect for the twang sounds when you miss a note. Also, the remote's home button and first/second/etc player indicator lights would be useful. And there would be one fewer set of batteries for everyone to keep charged. Multidirectional tilt might be useful in game, but even if not, they could use it to make the character onscreen hold the guitar at the same angle the player is. And maybe they could figure out a way that the rumble would enhance gameplay. The more I think about it, the better the guitar+remote idea seems.
