View Full Version : Rega Apollo or Rotel 1072 cd Glenee 01-02-07, 01:32 PM Which one and why ? Have a Outlaw 990 and B&W 802D speakers. Thanks, Glenee VicAjax 01-02-07, 02:23 PM i haven't heard the two side-by-side, but i LOVE the Rega Apollo. if i had the funds, i'd buy one tomorrow. of course, synergy is everything, and i heard it in an all-Rega system. Rega really knows how to get the timing right (the brits call it PRaT). twitch54 01-04-07, 08:22 PM Both excellent players, Id give a slight favor to the Rega. For some reaseon they have a "warmer more analog" appeal. They just seem to get music right and at a fair price I might add, considering the fact that they mfg great turntables for the $$ spent is a testement to their musicality. mattburk 01-05-07, 01:51 AM I would go for the rega, the new saturn looks pretty cool too. rjsquirrel 01-05-07, 07:21 AM Glenee I do not have any experince with the Apollo but own the 1072. Great player for the money. Use the player with Paradigm 100 v3 and integrated amp. I am listening to them now with classsical music. I prefer 1072 over cambridge audio 640C. Sound better in my system. If funds become available I recommend you audition the Cambridge Audio 840C. A fantastic CDP. Can also use as a DA converter. Alway let your ears be judge. RJ chunkisagoonie 01-09-07, 07:58 PM I sell both the 1072 and the Apollo and the $300 difference is actually well justisfied. A LOT of care went into designing the Apollo and Saturn. The Apollo uses Wolfson DACs, has a Class-A analog output stage, has a 20 MB buffer (so it can actually do error-correction correctly) and self-optimizes itself for every disc it reads. The Rotel is an excellent player, but the Apollo is a lot more refined. It's almost TOO good for $995. This Apollo actually holds it own with players costing three times as much (I actually favor it over the Classe CDP-102, which costs $4,000). hugh9269 01-15-07, 08:29 PM I hear over and over how good the Apollo is! I wish I could have heard one before I bought my Arcam 73T. DOUBTINGTHOMAS29 01-16-07, 08:28 AM I hear over and over how good the Apollo is! I wish I could have heard one before I bought my Arcam 73T. I listened to both the Arcam 73T and Rega Apollo on the same equipment. They sounded very similar to both my friend and I. After doing some research I learned that they both use the same Wolfson DAC's. Filthy McNasty 01-16-07, 09:00 AM I listened to both the Arcam 73T and Rega Apollo on the same equipment. After reading this and other threads, I drove 120 miles on Saturday to a shop that had Rega, Arcam, Cambridge & others to compare on the same equipment. I too thought that the Rega sounded a little better than the Arcam CD73T. But I also thought that the Arcam CD192 sounded better than the Rega. So I guess it comes down to have much one has to spend or is willing to spend. speeeedy 01-16-07, 10:54 AM How did the Cambridge fit into the group? tanaka 01-16-07, 11:06 AM Do a blind test and choose whichever one that YOU hear has "warmth" , "refinedness" and "analog appeal". If you don't hear it, buy the cheaper one. Filthy McNasty 01-16-07, 11:12 AM The vocals, especially solos, sounded much more natural on the Arcams and Regas than the Cambridge. I listened to both the CD73 and the Cambridge via Arcam AVR350 and Bryston separates - same conclusion each time. I came away realizing that I need to upgrade both my CD player and Pre/Pro with the amps and speakers I have (but then that's what "upgraditis" is all about ;) ) |
