Does anyone use this? Which connector is used? Component? DVI? HDMI? What is best?

I'm in a similar situation - need a DVD player for a 429UK. After a lot of research I came to the conclusion that I will purchase an Oppo DV-970HD. I decided against the OPDV971H and DV-981HD due to the issue of macroblocking - the distortion that appears in compressed video material as abnormally large pixel blocks, especially visible with fast motion sequences or quick scene changes - that occurs with Panasonic plasmas paired with DVD players that have Faroudja processors. There are 9UK setting adjustments that can minimize it, but I believe they require ISF calibration or the willingness of the owner to adjust settings in the Service Menu. Even though macroblocking may or may not be a huge issue depending on the viewer, I decided I didn't want the hassle. Maybe if you are willing, and Oppo will let you return one of the DVD players, you could purchase a 970 and either a 971 or 981 and see which one you prefer. For me the 970 will offer a great picture at an amazing price. They are highly regarded as the best for their respective price points. It will serve well as an interim DVD player until HD DVD/Blue-ray players come down in price.

If I were going the HD route I would consider the Toshiba HD-A1 or HD-A2. Not exceedingly high for first generation players, and once the HD-DVD/Blue-ray issues settle, and prices drop, a much better player can be had for less money.

A third option, assuming you own an XBox 360 would be the Xbox 360 HD-DVD drive. From the few reviews I've checked out it matches favorably to the Toshibas. There is an amazing deal on it now at Game Play. If you live near one or get lucky and a local retailer will price match, it is half the normal price. I have the 50"8uk. When I bought my oppo I was told if you have a separate video processor get the Oppo 970HD if you do not get the 971. I have the DVDO vp 50 video processor. If you do search you fine several threads on this subject.
