I was wondering when installing ceiling speakers in each room for music, is it real neccessary to put 2 speakers in each room or will one be enough?

Thanks

Get one dual-input speaker - I use Niles CM6.1SI for rooms like the bathrooms/den/breakfast nook, and they sound pretty darn good.

well you can get a pair for the same cost and sometimes lower. Not to mention you will have better sound quality. Your still have to run the same amount of wire and amplification. So I would recommend TruAudio, Russound, Speakercraft, Proficient, and I'm sure there are a million other brands. Truaudio and speakercraft give you a lifetime warranty when 9 out of 10 won't.

I am putting this Mirage 6" stereo speaker in my ensuite where space is limited.

In my rooms where I need to fill a bigger space I will be putting Mirage 8" pairs.

Depending on the sound I may add a subwoofer.

well no....not if you mix left and right before the amplifier and send one signal and one pair of wires to each room (in fact, it will require exactly HALF the wire and HALF the amplification :D )

I just went through this and trust me, one speaker in bathrooms/garage/rarely used guest rooms/etc is plenty (Polk 8" in-ceiling) plenty of power to fill the rooms. I used pairs in living area (5.1), keeping area, back porch.......everywhere else (master bedroom/master bath) that i considered pairs i decided that if i was going after primo sound quaility/ stereo seperation in those rooms then i was spending way too much time in them :D

True. The reason I would still advise running 4conductor wire is that you don't know if your ears would be ok with longtimelurker's solution. There's no law saying you have to use both pairs of wire, so later on if you decide you actually want to use a single regular speaker a la lurker, you're set. If you decide you actually want a single stereo input speaker, you're set. If you want 2 speakers, you're set.

The reason I personally prefer 1 stereo input speaker is you don't have to worry about funky sound quality at all, ie you're standing at the vanity and the left speaker is directly above you, so that's drowning out or completely overpowering the right.

In the long run, I have never known anyone who complained about running too much wire.
