View Full Version : Pioneer Pro FHD-1 and Playstation 2 - Danger of screen burn?

I own a Pioneer Pro FHD-1 display since 4 months now (roughly 300hours on it) and I am really pleased with its performance. I mostly watch DVDs or TV (via SAT), the picture quality in HD is stunning.

I have reduced the contrast settings to a moderate 20 to prevent any screen burn while watching TV with bright channel logos. So far I did not have any issue with screen burn (thank God!!)

But I am now planning to buy a Playstation 2 game console and want to use it on my Pioneer.

I have heard many problems with respect to screen burn on almost all plasma panels so I am really worried that playing with my PS2 might ruin my plasma screen.

Does anybody have any experience with a PS2 (or other game console) and a Pioneer Pro FHD-1 (or related model) regarding screen burn?

Is it enough to set the AVMode to "Game" or do I still have to take care of something else?

Thanks for your help!!

Tom,

I have an 1140 Elite, definitely not on par with your FHD-1. I have the PS2 and PS3. The PS2 is difficult to use after seeing the PS3 on this set. If money is an option I understand, but if you want to play games on your Pio, try the PS3, you won't be disappointed.
As for image retention or burn in, I have about 300hrs on my set and for my PS3 my settings are as follows;
Contrast 40
Brightness, Color, Tint, 0
Sharpness +2

I have a 10 year old who loves to play his PS3 on my Pio. I limit his play to 2 hours per game. the only game I have seen slight IR with was a "Marvel Ultimate Alliance" which gives you a steady screen dose of head shots of the characters on your screen in the lower left hand corner. One morning after Christmas, I slept in to find him playing this game for about 4 hours. Their was a faint IR but this was completely eliminated after normal tv viewing. Since then he understands the ground rules of playing his toy on my toy!

In my opinion the GAME mode is a bit bright for my tastes.
Sincerely,
