I am at a point where I need to choose between two TV's - Of Different Technology and I would like some help - I realize that this is a plasma thread, but hopefully I can get some objective answers.

1: Panasonic 50PX60U
2: JVC HD-56FN97 (LCOS)

My biggest concerns with the PLASMA is image burn in. I know that there are posts about avoiding it and such, but also it is 720P. The LCOS set is 1080P and accepts full 1080P.

My biggest concern about the LCOS is Lamps. And also off angle viewing is darker, but if I am seriously watching something I am sitting on the couch right in front of the set.

The other thing is that I can buy the Panasonic at SAMS CLUB and get the ability to return it for 1 whole year. So if a better plasma came out by December, and the price came down, which I am sure they will, then I could take it back and get the full amount towards another TV. Also if it burned in, I could get it replaced without a problem.

Viewing distance is about 8ft to the front of the couch.

Would you go for the Panny from SAMS for the return and say 50" is big enough and 720P is enough, or would you go for the JVC and get bigger and 1080P now?

I feel like I have read so much (Printed the threads) that I have only served to confuse myself.

Please Help Me Decide :)

As others have pointed out, don't let TV specs be the major influence on your decision. 1080p native displays don't make a great difference at normal in-home viewing distances. Most sales people use it as a marketing tool.

I ordered the Pioneer 5071 plasma because of its great picture quality. I made many, many trips to local stores to view all of the screens/technology and decided plasma (now in its 6-7th generation) was the way to go. I currently have a Samsung DLP for 3 years which was great.

Your eyes should be the final determining factor. Good luck.

I would say that at 8' & 50" you're just getting to the area where 1080p might be a boost over 768p if you've got a good eye. I wouldn't be overly concerned about burn in unless you leave your display in torch mode, play alot of games with fixed HUDs/scoreboards or watch alot of the same channel with a logo & little else. As long as you're aware & take reasonable steps, most of the latest model quality plasmas should not show any burn in.

Have you got some place where you can view both from 8'? Don't be too concerned about the picture (you will know that the settings are off), but view to see if you can see much difference in pixelation from that distance.
