Metal Screen Door Material (http://www.studiotech.com/pages/ProductPhotoPopup.aspx?productID=151)

I have a cabinet that our 56" DLP rests on == it has two smaller cabinets in which my cable box, DVD, etc. would fit into nicely, but the cabinets doors have glass inserts.

I have two small children that I am concerned might possibly break that glass so I was going to look into getting this material cut to the right size... I've actually never installed anything in the doors so they are reach-through right now.

Where would the common man go about finding this stuff? Does it have a 'technical' name other than 'metal screen door' material?

Thanks for your help!

It's technically called "Perforated Metal". This is NOT the same product as "expanded metal" which is usually metal which has slots sheared in it and then 'pulled' to open the slots.

It can be found in aluminum or steel and with a variety of hole sizes, shapes and densities.

Here's a website I found just by googling "perforated metal" -->

http://www.mcnichols.com/products/perforated/

This gives you a good idea of the options.

I suppose where to buy it would be the next question. Depending on where you live there is likely a "metal service center" nearby that will either deal with you directly or be able to send you to a customer of theirs.

Hope this helps.

thanks klindy -- definitely more than I knew before...

I will pick up a yellow pages and see if I can't find someone here in Houston,Texas (I might actually contact the guys in the link above and see what they have to say).

Try these guys --> http://www.hkperf.com/

I have no experience with them what-so-ever but their selection is pretty impressive. I'll bet they can steer you to a customer of theirs if they can't (or wont) sell it to you directly.

A customer of theirs is probably better anyway since that place will have the ability to shear the sheet to your specific sizes.

You might also look up "Architectural Sheet Metal" or "Metal Ceilings"

McMaster-Carr (http://www.mcmaster.com) is your friend. Good prices, cheap shipping, huge selection. Search on "perforated metal". You can even get titanium (of course it's almost $100/ft^2).
