I just bought a Civic w/Navi. It is XM ready, but I am a Sirius lover and won't change companies. I use a portable unit. I would love to be able to use the antenna that is already run to the navi with my Sirius unit.

Questions:

1) Can I unhook the XM sat antenna from the back of the navi? If so, how do I get to it?
2) If answer to 1 is yes, will the antenna connector work on my Sirius unit? (ie, is it a standard connector?)

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I just bought a Jetta w/ sirius, but they were offered with both. A lot of jetta/VW owners are swapping receivers depending on which radio they prefer, they're plug and play. Maybe try something like that so you don't have to stick an ugly radio unit on your beautiful dash.

Oh I wouldn't do that. I have navi, so replacing the HU is not an option. I actually found a guy who makes a convertor that can convert the XM antenna jack to a standard Sirius portable jack, so I'll probably go that route. I can just run the antenna from the trunk to the front of the car so I can plug it into the portable unit. That way I don't have to have two antennas on top of the car and I can use the antenna that is already there. It isn't a cheap option, but a much better looking one.

I have navi in my jetta as well, but the actual receiver for the sat. radio is mounted in the trunk. The headunit is compatible with either receiver.

Might want to check some of the honda forums.

Yeah, that's where I found my solution. I do know that my head unit is only compatable with XM. My receiver is mounted in the trunk as well. It's not a big deal really. I want to get a stiletto in the next few month either way so I can have a totally portable unit.

Honda is a majority investor in XM. They won't be offering SIRIUS ;)

Oh I know. That's why I wanted an alternate solution. Just didn't want two antenna's mounted on top of the car if I could use the one already there. I can, so problem solved.

Yeah, right.
I've been a Sprint cellular customer for years and even though they merged with Nextel like 3 yrs ago, those companies are still not compatable with each other. Even if XM and Sirius merge, it'll be a while before anything will coexist I predict. I just hope that when/if they do, I don't lose the Sirius stations I enjoy. Guess time will tell.
