View Full Version : 19"-24" CRT monitors for PC
homerrulez 01-03-07, 06:42 PM Now I did some research for the past few days and found that running a CRT HDTV on a PC isnta smart idea and the picture quality will not match that of a CRT monitor made for a pc. Why I dont know since they are CRTS. I will be looking to buy a CRT monitor around 19"-24". Now what I do know is very little but I was hoping to get soem help. I continued to do more research but still cant find anything on best CRT out there,
What would be the best 19"-24" CRTs that are out there for gaming and word processing. I looked up that term here on the search feature but I got a lot of posts that had nothing to do with what I was loking for.
MechanicalMan 01-03-07, 07:05 PM The OOP Sony GDM-FW900 seems like a popular choice. I'm not sure what the best way to obtain one would be.

Dude, go to ebay. Type in 24' Sony monitor into the search bar. I'm using the Sony GDM-FW900 monitor and its awesome.
homerrulez 01-04-07, 11:57 AM found it but its a bit out of my range so I was looking at the viewsonic one p220f and might gett hat if its a good crt
ag studios 01-04-07, 04:49 PM NEC / MITSUBISHI, are the ultimate CRT monitors..............they are used by LUCAS FILMS.................nothing more to say !
Sony are excellent too................but can be problematic............
look for anything with aperture-grille, and perfect flat technology..............
lets be honest, even the worse crt monitor is still MUCH MUCH better than the most expensive LCD monitor........
I dont like saying that all lcd monitors are rubbish, but the facts are, they are.........LCD is the most pixellated tech you can get, and the lcd refresh will always be slow, on such large panels............
avoid like the plague.............

where you been my whole life. I had to spend 600 dollars on an fpd2185 to only figure out its garbage. Text and some picsmay be sharp but when you notice that purple on an sdtv is grayish white on the left side then its time to smack this crap of an lcd and give it the boot! Man I wish I had saved up my money and went with CRT. I knew they were of better quality but figured why not give the LCD a try, 1000:1 contrast ratio sems pretty good for LCD. Well its still crap :( . Ok any ideas if the P225F is a good monitor. I have a chance of buying that one local right now but have to decide before driving and buying it!
Apache137 01-06-07, 01:05 AM so a LG 30" slimfit 1080i wouldnt be a good choice for a monitor??
if not, why?
i dont know much about this stuff.
thanks in advance,
Apache.
homerrulez 01-09-07, 04:20 AM yea I would like to knwo too as i am trying to save some cash here
S. Hiller 01-18-07, 01:04 AM An interlaced display might be pretty hard on the eyes for use as a computer monitor. Also, the true resolution of a 30" CRT HDTV (with the exception of some out of production Sonys) is only really about 800 pixels across from what I understand...

The P225F uses the Mitsubishi Diamondtron tube with .24 pitch, the same tube used in the Mits Diamond Pro 2070, one of the best CRT monitors ever built. I don't know if the Viewsonic is of equal quality, but it might very well be close. I have the 19" Diamond Pro, and I can tell you that watching 1080P HD video clips downloaded from the Windows HD site (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/musicandvideo/hdvideo/contentshowcase.aspx) is quite an experience!
I hope there are still monitors like this available from somewhere when mine finally quits.
danedrow 01-18-07, 12:24 PM Totally agree with everyone on the benefits of CRT's over LCD for a monitor. I won't get an LCD because I run my games at higher resolutions than I like to run my desktop. That's why I still have my 5yr old viewsonic A95F sitting on my desk.
As for finding a new CRT, check out the viewsonic website. They continue to make CRT's for computers at a decent price ~$250 for a 19" model, and they have the ever popular dealer finder, since the big box stores only carry crap CRT's now.
