View Full Version : Panny Plasma Confusion

I'm currently debating between a 46" LCD or a 50" plasma. If I go with Plasma I was looking at the Panny 50" models TH-50PX60U (also the 600U and the 6U/costco version). These are the only models listed on the Panasonic site (not the 6U) so I'm very confused about the different models I've seen discussed here as well as available on Amazon and elsewhere: TH-50PH9UK, TH-50PHD8UK ???

What is the difference between these other models? Is there already available or can anyone give me a rundown on the difference between these and any other 50" Panasonic models? Is there a reason they are not on their own website? Any help in this would be greatly appreciated. Any comments on the LCD or Plasma issue or other 50" Plasma's I should consider would be helpful too.

Thanks

Go and take a look at a Pioneer 50 inch and see what you think in terms of comparison. I think you would be amazed. The TH-50PHD8UK is a previous version of the 9UK.

I've read that plasma looks much better than LCD in the 50" size range. Panasonic will usually only show their most recent models on their website. The difference between the 60U and 600U is basically the number of inputs and a few other functional bells and whistles. The display is supposed to be the same. I think there is a quick reference list somewhere, maybe on Bruzzi's site.

The TH-50PHXXUK is the Commercial version of the TH-50PX600/60/6U.
You can see the differences here:

Panasonic does list the Commercial Units on their site - ya just gotta dig around.

got it...thanks

on a practical level, why would I (or anyone) want the commercial model for home use? Pro's and con's for "real" use?

Roman: which Pioneer models would you recommend to compare?

Thanks all

Pioneer PDP-5070

For the price difference I don't know if it's worth the extra $700 that it currently is I think... Beautiful set.. Im watiing for the pioneer to come down in price because I don't see 1080p plasmas being a reasonable price for a year or two... Next in line for me is the Panny TH50PX60 that one is the nicest plasma i have seen after the pio. Both beautiful sets, pioneer is notch better. I imagine by June Pioneer will be very reasonably priced. And that would be the route to go until 1080p plasma is around at a solid price :) Of course, the only other option is sweet projectors :)

In all fairness I am also waiting for CES to see the results of the new DLP technologies and if there aer any other surprises. I think that it will still be a matter of me waiting for the Pio price to drop though.

1) More control over picture (more adjustments - overscan control being the biggy)
2) Aesthetics (subjective)
3) Supports native rate digitally (via the optional DVI board)
