I am in charge of setting up the sound system for my local high school baseball pressbox. We want to be able to play CD's and announce over the music. We have a set of Klipsch outdoor speakers. We tried using a plain stereo receiver with a preamp for the microphone but you couldn't talk with the music playing, you had to pick a source. Also, the receiver continually cut out if we turned up the volume.
We are on a limited budget, any ideas???
Thanks in advance

Probably need an audio mixer for your application. Something small like a Shure SCM262 (http://www.shure.com/ProAudio/Products/MixersAndDSP/us_pro_SCM262_content). It is a really simple unit and has a feature called "ducking" which lowers the stereo input gain when someone is speaking into one of the mic inputs. You can plug your mic and your stereo sources into this mixer and it would work swell. They are around $318 list price. You will probably want to use something besides a stereo receiver for an amplifier. A Crown 1160A (http://www.crownaudio.com/ca_htm/ca-a.htm) may work for you. List price on that is $575.
