Excuse me for bringing this here, but since I have worked in the CI industry, I have never been able to find a definitive answer on this one. Maybe there isnt one, or maybe I havent asked the right people, but I thought I would ask away.

We normally run a shielded 22/4 for line level audio....whether for subwoofers or audio interconnects and solder the ends on. It works. I am curious if there is an advantage or disadvantage by using a coaxial cable like RG6 or mini-RGB cable instead? Is there a scientific benefit of one over the other?

I have used RG6 for custom lengths when lacing racks and so forth with no ill effects. I would just like to find some insight on this subject. Thanks in advance.

If you are looking for the cable that degrades the sound the least, I believe the best choice would be the cable that has the smallest values for (1st) capacitance and (2nd) inductance, plus, of course, adequate shielding.

The values of L and C change not only with the type of cable, but also the brand, and when using STP, how you wire up the conductors (because the conductor-to-conductor values are different than the conductor-to-shield values).

In very general terms, certain RG-6 coaxial and the STP stuff specifically intended for AES-EBU offer the overall lowest levels for L and C that I've run across.

Now, the point where all this becomes audibly significant is another matter entirely...
