View Full Version : Anyone have an Audio Blubook? Aerial 7s vs. Aerial 9s?
Wondering if anyone might have a recent bluebook, i'm looking for the approximate value of a pair of lightly used Aerial Acoustics Model 7s (with sand-filled bases), comapred to a similar pair of Model 9s.
Any help would be appreciated, seems these things don't sell very often, and I'm looking to upgrade, wondering what it would cost me.
thanks!
goatwuss 01-04-07, 10:36 AM morttt - Audiogon.com has an audio bluebook that you can subscribe to for like $15 a month or something trivial like that. It's got charts and all. I did it for one month and saved it to my hard drive. Granted my hard drive crashed after that... but again, only $15 or so for a new month
Jim Swantko 01-04-07, 10:47 AM 7's sold new for $2800; average $1220 used
7A's sold new for $3100; avg $1410 used
7B's sold new for $4000; avg $2340 used
9's don't have actual sales data - but I would expect them to be significantly more considering they retail for $8500 new.
davidpa 01-04-07, 10:54 AM I would expect the 9s to run you around 6500-7500, but that will vary depending on finish as well. So will the 7Bs. I havent even seen the 9s for sale anywhere except new, and thats how I got mine. The 7Bs will be easier to locate, and will be much cheaper, the 7Bs can be found if you keep your eye open, but if your buying used, and are in the 7B price range, maybe keep the 10Ts as an option?
thanks very much for the help. they are straight 7s, not a or B, so i think i might hold onto them...

I don't know if 10T's would fit in domestically, as they are bigger than the 9's, but they are available used at around 1/3 of the new price. The wood veneer versions were about $1k more new, so I'd expect them to be $3-400 more used than the black ones. One thing to make sure is that the head units aren't cracked - they are made from a cast composite similar to Corian, but more acoustically inert. I'm sure repair wouldn't be cheap. Personally, I think they are a great deal at current used prices. It's long enough since they got rave reviews in Stereophile etc. I have 10T's, a CC3B and SR3's, which make a great HT and audio setup. I recently listened to a number of more expensive speakers with a friend who was considering upgrading from Vandersteen 5A's. We were in agreement that most of the speakers we listened to were less musically involving than the 10T's and (even more so) his 5A's.
Cheers, Ian

I don't want to hi-jack this thread but since it is related I hope someone can answer.
I am thinking about buying some new Aerial 9's or 7B's and would like to know what the main differences are between the two? I just purchased a JL Audio Fathom 113 and will be crossing it over at 80 Hz so I don't want to spend more than I have to on my left and rights. If the 7B's sound like the 9's except they don't have as much bass, I will jump all over them. Thanks
Jason
davidpa 01-07-07, 07:27 PM The 9s (I have em, and compared both) have a much more layered sound beyond just having more bass. But if your dead set on crossing over at 80hz (which seems odd, since you dont know how they'll integrate into the room once in the room and setup) then the 7s are the ones for you.
davidpa 01-07-07, 07:31 PM Zissou, if you ever see a pair of 9s selling for what that bluebook states, let me know, I'll buy em just because the price is right, or anyone else here for that matter! PM me PLEASE.
I've never even seen 7s go for the price they have listed? Someone throwin numbers around just for the h@ll of it?
According to an online site:
Used Average Low
Aerial 7 $1220 $910
Aerial 7A $1410 $1180
Aerial 7B $2340 $1710
Aerial 9 $4190 NA
Aerial 10T $3390 $2180
These are from historical sales data - presumably of what sellers or buyers reported the close to be (as opposed to advertised prices).

Official Orion Bluebook. Don't look at the wholesale numbers, look at the used price numbers. Wholesale is for dealers. ISB gave you Audiogon numbers.
