Updated see post #10

Java/javascript (whichever) isn't working for me all of a sudden in the past few weeks. For the smilies, quotes, bold functions etc. I have to type in the brackets/text to get what I want. In the past I would reload the reply page and it would solve the problem, but not now. Any ideas? No change on this end. I run Opera (V9)

Sorry to say not much help here. We have not made any changes to the site. I am guessing something like a security setting on your machine dealing with java and java script.

Sorry.

Thanks Dave.
No changes here (at least none I made). The only thing I have noticed is the Java stuff loads last. If the page hangs and I 'stop' the loading any of those applets (I think that's the correct term) won't work.

FWIW, here is a screen shot of the Error Console message when I tried to click on the 'bold' function;

Further test;
I can use the quotes etc, in the 'quick reply' box, but not in the 'post reply'.

The source for the JS, is it comming from another site that is connected to/with a ad server?

I would need more info on that I am sorry to say. But yes, JS is one method used to call up ads from the ad server.

Apparently it was my substittuted hosts file. Which means one of your ad servers was on that list that supplies the JS (not sure that is the correct description) and it blocked that data. It was changed form a number of months ago since it never was a issue before.

What I thought was a javascript problem on my end turned out to be a popup ad blocker I was running.

Ok, this problem returned. Also, another viewer reported it that uses Opera.
Only the 'quick reply' box works. The 'post reply' nothing responds except the smiles on top for the entire post at the top of the post.

NO hosts lists or blockers used.

Sorry Bruce, nothing we can do on this end. Even more so when you say it RETURNED as we have made no code changes to the site.

In spite of this being a older thread, this problem is still with me.

I did a little investigating into this using Firefox and IE (that I almost never use) and on the same forum page with the three browsers I find missing ads in the upper left corner under the black AV Science Forum banner and on the right side bar at the top. Before I 'login' those ads are there on the right, but after they are gone except for two at the bottom of that right sidebar.
As far as the top left, I see part of a error message in Firefox and IE about the page can't be opened or not available. In Opera, it is just blank.

The reason for all of the above, it is my understand the 'script' (or whatever it is called) can come from these 'ad servers' for the missing commands I can't access which would explain why there is a problem. I know it isn't a Opera problem as others can access these functions and I can access the functions on another 2k machine so it isn't a 2k issue either.

Any new ideas from any of the 'webmasters' out there since this is beyond me?
