I just picked up a Sony 30" Wega (Model KV-30HS510) on craigslist and have my Xbox 360 hooked up to it via component cables and outputting 1080i. My concern comes when the monitor must switch resolutions according to what the xbox is feeding it.

When the xbox switches from the menu (1080i) to say, a DVD (480i/or p, not sure) the TV follows suit, but with a noticable lag and about a 1/2 second flickering of the screen.

Is this resolution switching harming the picture tube in anyway? Maybe shortening it's lifespan? I imagine those with digital cable (both standard and HD streams) may be able to share their thoughts. Thanks for the help.

Nothing to be alarmed about - just the way the unit switches.

Totally normal.

Yeah, mine does that. I think they all do. It does annoy me that my cable box makes me pick an output resolution though. I have it set to output in 1080i with HD and 480i with SD. But I'd prefer that it would detect the signal coming in and output it at whatever it is so that a 720p channel would output at 720p, 1080i channel at 1080i, etc. If my TV knows what the different signals are than the box should be able to.
