View Full Version : 3 year bulb warranties a safe bet? ie: (HD1000U 2 replacements allowed)

Does anyone know if these warranties some sites offer are really true.

One stated that for less than the price of a a new bulb in the case of the HD1000U, they will replace the bulb two times during the 3 years.. if this is really the case, I could almost use the projector 7 hours a day for 3 years and never pay for more than the price on the warranty.

(Probably too soon to tell.. but what are the odds in Eco mode, that a unit like the HD1000U, could get alot more hours than the 3000 or so it is ranked at)? (Pipe dreaming of 6000 hour life if tweaked out :)

Thanks...

Look carefully at the wording of the warranty. Many replacement warranties will only replace a failed bulb. Sometimes, a bulb will weaken considerably and be almost unusable; many bulb warranties will not replace a dim bulb.

"Authorized" Mitsubishi dealers will tell you that they are not aware of any "authorized" Mitsubishi dealer that offers bulb warranties, and this seems to be true if you shop around. Not sure how important it is to you to buy from an "authorized" dealer, but it wasn't clear to me how this status would affect the mfg warranty, so the bulb warranty in the end was not an option for me.

The bulb warranty option is completely seperate from the Mitsu warranty as I understand it. The protection is against premature FAILURE of the bulb before the rated hours. If you get the 2000 or 3000 hours out of your bulb, it has not failed so don't expect to get a new one with the warranty....

I bought one because to me, if a bulb blows early (after the first 90 days) it totally negates the good price I got on the projector itself because now you are out another $300.

I noticed the 3 year option on bestpricecameras...

I still think 3 total bulbs in 3 years for an extra 259 is a steal.. if the projector is used like a normal tv 90% of the time.. 2548 hours per year at "normal" usage for me.. or so I guestimate. That equates to buying a new bulb every 1.1 years or so (in 3 year span.. if prices held the same on bulbs.. thats $600 bucs, so a savings of $350 or so if i did the calcs right)...

I was referring to the ability to get warranty service under the general Mitsubishi 1 year/90 day warranty if the unit is not purchased from an "authorized" Mitsubishi dealer - none of which in my experience even offer add-on lamp warranties.

There are also some details to these warranties which are suspect:

For instance, if your bulb "blows" as you've described, it's not covered.

I would not touch bestpricescameras as they are scam artists from Brooklyn (check www.resellerratings.com)

Projectorpeople.com sells a 3 year bulb warranty and they're an authorized Mits. dealer.

I decided to by one for my pan 100 and for 3 years it was only $99(projector people). By only I am hoping that this warranty company will honor their end when the bulb burns out if not I guarantee I will record my conversation and somehow have it avail to download so others don't get scammed out of this warranty as well.

If your bulb reaches it's rated hours, you cannot make an honest claim... The protection is against FAILURE, not simply using up the life.

I bought a 3 year bulb warranty through ProjectorPeople and returned it as soon as I received it and read the fine print. For the most part failure does not seem to even qualify for a new bulb because the warranty excluded burnt bulbs, dimming bulbs, exploded bulbs, flickering bulbs and just about anything else one could fathom up as a reason to need a new bulb. My honest advice would be to avoid it and to put that $99 to a new bulb yourself.

Very interesting... In the 2 3/4 years I've owned my H30- I've had two of the three lamps for the unit explode. I wouldn't have collected a dime from them. Hmmmmm.......
