I have read through the tweakers thread have read that people have confirmed that the Optoma HD70 will display at 48hz eliminating the need for 3:2 pulldown. Here is my question. How do you actually do this is it a setting in the projectgor? Here is my situation. I have the HD70, xbox 360 with HD DVD player, LG upconverter, and comcast DV R. I am most interested in the xbox 360 with hd dvd player because I know that it outputs 24hz.

you don't change anything on the projector...its the feeding source that needs to be changed...I don't know if you can customize the 360 refresh rate...there is a secret menu on the d1 that allowed me to do just that.

I see, so according to the HD DVD drive faq on xbox.com it outputs 24hz, so how will the projector handle this? Will it actually display at 24hz or are they wrong when they say that and my xbox will output 60hz no matter what

HD70/HD1000u won't handle 24hz. Only a handful of PJ can handle 24 Hz and truely display 24 Hz. Most of the time the PJ will upconvert the 24 Hz to 48 (sometimes) or 60 Hz (most common)

How can I tell on the HD70 what it's displaying?

You want the projector to accept 24 fps sources, but you do not want to display it at 24 fps! Can you say flicker?

The better displays will then at least double the signal to 48 Hz or triple it to 72 Hz. This eliminates 2:3 pulldown judder, while lowering or eliminating flicker.

That is what I would hope would happen but can anyone confirm that the HD70 will convert a 24hz signal into 48hz?

If i set my D1 to 48hz it plays back real jerky on my HD70, i thought it was susposed to correct that?
Also how do you know a DVD is film based or video based?

Blockbuster movies are film based and anime, concert, TV are video based.

that means you input the custom numbers incorrectly. no other reason for it. di you use 47.95 instead of 48? double check your numbers and try it again.

How can I tell on the HD70 what it's displaying?

Generally if input anything between 48-63Hz, HD70 will display at exactly the same frequency as input

If input is 24Hz it will display at 48 Hz instead. (since it is repeating two identical frames, it will look visually the same as 24Hz - there are a lot of technical advantages to do 48Hz instead - such as time needed to adjust colorwheel is less)

If input is >63Hz HD70 will be displayed image at 60Hz instead

We have tested XBox360 VGA output (component output only do 1080p for games but outputs 1080i as soon as HD DVD starts playing) Output from VGA is 1080p 60Hz but not 24Hz.

Sony PS3 HDMI output is also 1080p 60Hz, So is Samsung Blu-ray player.

Only Sony and Pioneer dedicated Blu-ray players can output 1080p 24Hz - after you enabled such option in setup. Toshiba XA2 should also output 1080p 24Hz, but I cannot get it to verify with HD70 yet.

Yes, we have tested both Sony and Pioneer Blu-ray players at 1080p 24Hz, HD70 does display it at 48Hz.

I have my D1 at 48hz with my hd70 (and its an early one) and the picture is sharper it noticably with horizontal lines for me...so maybe you didn't input the resolution number right. I know others like Cyrano have tried it with good results as well.

I used the prog CR4V800 to tell me the numbers, i dont see a 47.95 option on it

Hey Huey, if the HD70 can do it at 24hz, maybe the HD1000u can do it too? Maybe its worth testing? ;)

Your the first person I'm reading about who says their HD70 will convert 24hz to 48hz when appropriate. Everyone else says 24hz is unstable.

Is the HD70 good with the 360 and 360 HD Dvd drive or not? I almost have enough money saved to buy the HD70 and would only be using it with my 360 and 360 HD Dvd Drive. I don't know anything about this 24/48 stuff your talking about. Tell me if the HD70 is good or not without having to mess with a bunch of crap. If it's not I'll just keep saving and get the Sony Cineza WXGA.

Hd70 looks great with the 360 hd-dvd addon and games. The one thing that really surprised me
was how much better games looked on my hd70 compared to my 23inch 720p tv. The hd70 doesn't show any jagged lines with 360 games,
like the tv does. The hd-dvd is what really shows how good this little pj can look.
The Chronicles Of Riddick is a real treat, amazing contrast at this price.

How does 24Hz imply flicker? This isn't some CRT.

I have my hd70 hooked to the radeon x1900xt via 6m VGA cable. Manual says it should accept up to 85hz on most of the resolutions, however when I try it goes to 832x624. Any ideas why ?

yeah 1280x720 @ 48 Hz. is being detected as 832x624 by the HD70. This is using Nvidia custom timing. I may need to tweak it a bit.

does anyone have timings for the HD70 @ 48 Hz. that they can provide me? Still not having any luck.

Try Powerstrip. If DVI->HDMI does not work then try VGA or vice versa.

Right now I'm using VGA. HDMI would be tough at the moment. I'm curious what timings others are using.

still no luck here. doesn't anyone use the HD70 with an HTPC at 48Hz? if you can post what timings you're using, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks!

Hello

I have the same projector with a mac connected to it, and I'm also trying to find the correct timing settings to obtain a 48Hz signal. Anyone found it?
