You guys are the best/smartest people to help me make my decsion and asnswer a few questions concerning my setup now.

I have a DLP Phillips b-cool projector. 3 years old, only goes up to 480p.
It has great picture in my opinion. But...I was thinking of getting a new projector with atleast 720p with a HDMI input for my collection of DVD's. With a Upconverting DVD player. Do they make a big difference in picture? I got a big collection of DVD's and im already happy with the picture quality. Im not ready to make the jump into the HD-DVD/Blueray market. Im going to wait for a player that will play both.

My issues are:

1. My selection of projectors are limited, living in Canada. We have a Best Buy/future shop.
We have Sony, hitachi, Sharp, optoma, epson, viewsonic. What would you recommend?

2. Is it worth to get a Projector with HDMI and a upconverting DVD player? For my collection of DVD's I have now?

My setup: I had to use 2 component cables hooked up together using a AC cable extenter, yellow,white/red. So I can have my dvd player near my screen. Will I lose much video quality doing this? My Phillips projector doesn't have component in. I also have to use a VGA to component adapter/cable. Does that lose quality also?

Thank's for taking the time to read this!

Well, you will definitely see an improvement in picture quality. But only you can tell how much better to your eyes. I would Look at an Optoma HD70 projector or a Mitsubishi HD1000 if they are similar price. Both are around $900 US.

Here is a CAnadian Seller of the HD70

Here is a list of upscaling DVD players from most expensive (and best) to least expensive (and good). In US Dollars

1. Oppo 981 $220
2. Oppo 971 $200
3. Oppo 970 $150
4. Sony NS75 $110
5. Panasonic S52 $80

don't forget if you can find the bravo d1....or the d2 even its cheap and has excellent PQ the d1 is a bit quirky so somtimes it needs a reboot to start a movie ...But I paid like $40 new shipped for mine and you can't beat it for the money plus it does 48hz so no 3/2 pulldown to worry about....this player with my hd70 blows away my 480p x1 with dvd's....way cleaner brighter and no more being able to see each pixel. Its worth it just for that.
