I'm looking to get something that can easily record off a tv like a VCR but VCRs and DVD recorders seem to suffer from short recording times. So I figure I should get a DVR but I am far from HD. I havea simple CRT tv with s-video and component. I don't want any kind of TiVo type features. I just want to be able to input the time and channel and have it record my show. I figure 60 GB is good enough as that should get me well over 10 hours at max, which will record a game or a few shows without me having to swap media. I don't mind if it has extra features but I've read that the buffer can shorten the life of the hard drive. Also, I don't want to spend a ton of money for something I'm only going to use for a couple of years until I get going with HDTV.

The other thing I want in this is a good DVD player. I don't need a recorder. I'm not going to move things off the hard drive onto DVDs. I just want to stop having to use my XBOX as a DVD player. So I would like something that has a good DVD player with a hard drive. If I can get a better DVR without the DVD player, that works. I can always find a DVD player separately but ideally this would have both in one. Oh, and if I should be asking on a different area, please let me know.

Thanks everyone.

I have the same request as djtwyce, except that I don't need a DVD recorder in it. thank you for your help.

I am tired of bad service with my DishNetwork and I already have an OTA HD tuner, but I would like a DVR that can record both signals Over-the-Air analog and HD.

Basically, I would like to replace my VHS.

Thanks again.
