View Full Version : Will Replay TV Work With Qwest Choice TV?

Just got a Motorola RG2200C Gateway Box installed. Now my old Panasonic PVHS 1000 & 2000 don't detect a video signal. The Gateway also requires UHF remotes and won't change the channels (IR Blaster). The gateway wants you to run the TV on channel 6, 7 or 13. It will run up to three tv's off one coax cable and then splits the video signal to each tv.

What I have done so far. In setup - Hooked coax to ANT IN, choose cable in, didn't work, then chose Other and that didn't work. I've tried a lot of other things but open to suggestions. If there are no solutions, will newer systems work? I'm also interested in a IR-UHF Blaster if there is such a thing.

First post..I read most of the FAQ's. let me know if I've done anything wrong.

I found the signal. The Replay box must be on Channel 6, (or 7, 13) for that TV to get the signal but this takes away the show recording because as soon as it tunes to the channel that it wants to record there is a loss of signal.

I recently moved to Phoenix and have Qwest Choice tv, and I haven't been able to get my replaytv box hooked up. Can anyone help me? My box was a piece of cake when I had Comcast cable previously.

I have the Qwest Motorola RG2200C gateway box in one room, and my desired outcome would be to have the replaytv in another room, if possible. If that's not possible, I can keep the replaytv in the same room as the gateway box and either mod my xbox or put a computer in the room the bedroom.

When the Qwest installer was here, he'd never seen a replaytv, and he was of no help.

I had Qwest Choice TV with one ReplayTV unit for about 6 years. It worked great until I tried adding a second ReplayTV. After several unproductive calls with Qwest support and combing the various newsgroups, I decided to switch over to Cox and have been happily using three ReplayTV units for a few years now.

This is the setup I found to work best (it's been a while since I had Qwest so this is coming from memory and may not be complete):

1. As Blitzoid mentioned, Qwest Choice TV uses 3 channels (6, 7, and 13) and has a remote for each channel.
2. When changing the channels on the Gateway box itself, it affects the stations on channel 6. That's the channel we will be using to record on the ReplayTV. Once your Replay has been set up, hide the ch6 remote.
3. The ReplayTV needs to be near the Qwest Gateway Box (for coax, audio/video and IR connections).
4. Channel 6 is used for the ReplayTV.
5. Channel 7 is for your TV that's next to the Gateway.
6. Channel 13 can be used for another TV in the house.
7. Connect the composite/s-video out from the Gateway Box to the ReplayTV video input connections.
8. Plug the IR blaster in the back of the ReplayTV and place the transmitter in front of the Gateway Box IR receiver.
9. Setup the Replay to use the Qwest Choice TV (I think the code is 0764).
10. I think you need to take coax line #1 from the 3-way split off of the gateway into the coax input on the ReplayTV. More info is available at http://www.qwestchoice.com/tivo.html (I can't post embedded links yet).
11. Set the ReplayTV to record off of channel 6.
12. Take coax line #2 (ch7) from the back of the gateway and plug into your TV.
13. Plug the audio/video line out from the ReplayTV into your receiver or TV.

The end state should be something like this:

1. Watch normal TV from channel 7 using the ch7 remote.
2. Watch ReplayTV on Input1 (on TV or receiver) using the ReplayTV remote or universal remote.

From there you should be pretty close to having everything set up. Again, it's been a few years since I have used Qwest so I may have missed a step or two.

I hope this helps...

Blitzoid,

FWIW: Yellow text might look cool against the default "AVS Black" theme, but some of us don't use that theme and your post is illegable against the white background. If you made the color change by accident then no worries, but if you did it intentionally to get your post noticed, it's counter productive.

Zork, thx for your help. Once I picked up an IR blaster and changed some of the input settings in the 5040, it worked. However, I have a new problem:

The Quest Gateway box is a Motorola RG2200C The IR Blaster code for this box is apparently 0764, per Quest. The Replay tv doesn't send duplicate digit codes well. For instance, if I sent it to channel 33, the box changes the channel to 3. 117, it goes to 17. The replay thinks it's going to the proper number, and it displays appropriate information for the show it is expecting. 121 works. 120 works, 122 goes to 12. Every number I've tried that has the same digit twice in a row, is read as only one digit. Does anyone have an idea for this? I called quest and they didn't have a solution. I called Replay, and they only had the suggestion for the code 0764.

Thanks!

Sounds like you need to fine tune the setup. Follow these (http://www.replayfaqs.com/4DCGI/Detail_FAQ_Display?ID=138) directions from the Replay FAQ to get into the fine tuning setup. You probably want to adjust the inter-action delay.

Also, I would recommend using the Replay's internal tuner for channels 1-99 and only using the cable box for channels 100+. It's a tricky setup, but you'll never miss any recordings on the low channels again (at least due to a IR blaster issue). You'll need to split your coax so one goes into the cable box and the other goes into the antenna input on the Replay. Then, on the Replay, set it up so the antenna input is tuning Quest (analog) while keeping whatever setup you have for the cable box. On the Replay, you'll see channels 1 through 1099. 1 through 1000 is being tuned through the cable box and 1001 through 1099 are being tuned internally through the Replay. Go to the Add/Remove channels on the Replay and get rid of channels 1-99. Unfortunately, whenever you want to record something on say, channel 4, you'll need to go to 1004, but you get used to it quick. There is no easy way to remap channels. The only method I know about is Wirns, and I haven't tried it... yet.

I just bought a 5040 and have the same gateway box Motorola RG2200 with my local provider www.solarus.com. Solarus uses Tivo so they must have a simple way like you have described above to control the DVR. The only problem i see is using more than one Replay or Tivo. Also when you use the s-video or composite video output from the Motorola box you can only use the TV1 output on my box that is channel 4. I'm sure i will have a few questions when i get to setting up the Replay, but thanks for the help in advance.

BTW I know there is a code to change the remotes to work as IR or RF with the RG2200 Motorola boxes, very nice feature to have when your using a learning remote.

I tried this, and it didn't work. I tried all sorts of number combinations...the box seems to default to a 400ms time for the interaction response. the IR code I was trying was 0764. The box liked to switch it to 4476
I eventually gave up.
the next day it worked like it was supposed to.
I'm positive I turned it off and tried again. I did not, however, ever unplug it from the wall. I'm unsure why it started working, but I'm glad it does!
