Okay I have been basically set on purchasing the new PanyAX100 for several months now. The problems have started to pile up on this forum and I am now `fenceriding' on whether or not to purchase it.
Questions:
1) Are there any other hi power(1500+ lumen) HD projector options out there under $2K? Yes, I will have some ambient light in the room. :o I have 8' ceiling and can only ceiling mount so lens shift, etc is a plus!
2) ANyone here have any experience with Op EXPro projecotrs in their HTs?
I have noticed many of their projs are HD-compatible and have 720 resolutionsas well as high lumen numbers. :D
I probably should add the screen will be 2 and 1/2 feet off the ground to just under ceiling level..throw would be 10-14'.Mount can be n more than a foot and 1/2 drop.
THanks......

I'm in the same boat, the AX100 was looking good until the issues started cropping up. However, you have to remember that usually only the people who have something bad to say post abou it. Despite that, I'm shopping around and now seriously considering the Epson 810 (TW700). About the same brightness level but better picture. It's more money though, but still reasonable.

Panasonic has one major advantage over every other HD consumer front projector- that is the option of ultra-close viewing distances (e.g in a 10 x 12 ft room and shooting from 11 ft distance onto a 8 ft diagonal screen with practical viewing distances as close as 5 to 8 ft eyes to screen center)
THIS is among the reasons why this year Panasonic once again (for the third year in a row) will outsell every other type of HD front projector
Add me to that ship's roster. I am agonizing about what to go with for my first ever projector. Was sold on the Panny a couple of months ago (before my basement reno was complete, and long before I was ready to purchase) but I am now concerned about the flicker and colour issues I've read about. I've even considered sacrificing the lumens and going to the Z5 (the price point and a few other features are attractive), but it too seems to have some colour issues. Not to mention the reports of some less than satisfied owners dealing with Sanyo on warranty claims. ProjectorCentral states pretty strongly that with room ambient light the Panny is by far the better choice, but then I've read some off-hand comments that the Sanyo is quite capable of managing with some ambient light; wish I could find some more definitive opinions from owners about this. Then again, maybe I need to stop the reading and just make a decision already ;)
It would be nice to get a sense of what proportion of PT-AX100 users have had problems. Perhaps the many issues reported here is a function of the fact that it has sold like hotcakes since its release... more units in peoples hands means more likelihood that there will be some problems. This is purely speculative of course, based on the sheer traffic the discussions about it has created here and elsewhere.
I've found myself wishing for the past few weeks that I could make a DLP work (like the Mitsubishi HD1000), but with my 7.5' basement ceilings and ideal ceiling mount location about 13-15' from the screen, I just don't think that will be possible.
As a final note, I understand that the InFocus IN76 puts out more light than its 1000 rating would imply, but I am not sure if street pricing on it has become any more reasonable or not.
