For and 8ft ceiling. I have the distance to go back to 15 ft., but I'll probably be at 12' for my desired 100" screen. The question is whether I go ceiling or table mount right now. Or, I could build a stand too to whatever height I want (I'm pretty handy with my garage and tools).

The Mitsu calculator gives measures for both, but I'm not understanding (after searching the archives) what problems or benefits there might be with a table mount.

I'll be moving soon (house is on the market), so if I'm able to mount it to the table for the time being I'd be happy:) If it has to be ceiling mounted, then I will. The table would also allow me to keep my 6ft cables for now until I know where I'm moving and what the setup is like. Then I could mount it wherever and buy the 25' cables from monoprice.

Any help or insight here would be most appreciated. Thanks all.

If your moving and the table mount is more convenient for the time being then do it. As far as I know there are no difference in table versus ceiling mounting in terms of visual quality. The sound of the projector will be a little more audible but that should be just about it.

Thanks nick. Glad to see someone else is up as late (or early) as I am. Sound out of the projector is usually overcome like everything else noisy in my house...by using my volume button:)

It needs to be a VERY LOW TABLE, depending on where you want the bottom of screen. With your 100" screen(49" tall) the offset will be about 17". So add 17" to your table height. That will be the bottom of image.

I'm in the same boat. My table is too tall by about 4 inches. I heard someone say to basically angle the projector down until the bottom matches up (up to a few degrees), but that sounds like a bad idea to me. I might just have to find a way to mount the projector under the table, as it's open underneath.

Anyone know how this offset compares to the HD70? I know there were a few different offset number floating around for it based on what people were finding and what was in the manual and on the website.

Thanks Jim. And thanks Go as well, I think I will mount it underneath the table. That's a great idea and will provide protection for it as well I think (so long as the dog doesn't lick it). I'll try that in a couple days when it gets here, and report back to help you out.

my projector is @ about 7 ft high 12ft back and throws to a 110" screen. I am using the lens shift on my 510 NEC - I am looking to upgrade, but I am concerned about the Keystone of the HD1000. Without the lens shift - would I have to Keystone?

all you have to do is follow one of the hundreds of links to the Mitsubishi calculator...

I have the HD 1000 and 110" screen. Mounted at 13.5 ft. The offset is about 18". So if you mount your projector as flush as possible, lets say 5" from the ceiling to the center of the lens plus the 18" offset puts your image at 23" down from the ceiling. That is with no keystoning or tilting the porjector up which some have done. Employing those two options you could move the image up the wall. Otherwise it will be about 7" from the floor. Not good.

On another note, I have the NEC 510. The lens adjustment is really nice. And for a $700 projector it does a fine job. In some ways I like the 510 better ie color accuracy, skin tones. I have 2500 hours on it and it is still quite bright in eco mode. I may skip the upgrade and wait for the 1080 machines. The NEC has a less digital look to the image. The improvement with the HD 1000 is resolution and black level. I am debating on returning the HD 1000.

Everyone appears to be excited about the Brilliant Color. It seem to me it is nothing more than the white peaking control on the NEC.

Good luck with your upgrade plans.

Funny you say what you say about the 510 - I have been very happy with this machine, and am not sure I am in a hurry to upgrade.

Did you, by chance look @ the Panny AX100?
