I guess we will have to wait and see, but in the mean time I will enjoy those movies on my PS3 and enjoy all exclusive HD-DVD titles on my HD-A2. Yes I am in HD paradise.

Rumour only.

If you're expecting Lions Gate to go neutral, prepare to be disappointed.

It isn't gonna matter this year. It will eventually happen by the end of 2007. Don't throw all that money away on another format. Be patient and watch the DVDs on your superior HD DVD player. There will be plenty of HD DVD titles announced at CES in just a few days. You can see the wheels turning with dual player rumors and dual format discs. The studios care more about their bottom line then any allegiance to Sony and its folly. There will be so many inexpensive HD DVD players (bought for movie viewing purposes and not gaming) that any studio especially the struggling Lionsgate will find it hard to resist neutrality. Just watch and be patient.

Or watch them in HD on your HD movie stations. Better yet, record the ones you like to D-VHS--no need for BD! :)

The studios care more about their bottom line then any allegiance to Sony and its folly.

I hope you really don't think this is the case. Only Sony studios are loyal to BD because of this. Others (for instance Fox) have other reasons that have to do with security and other features in BD.

Dave you can't be serious or you misunderstood my post. The bottom line (profit) is much more important to the studios. If HD DVD continues to out-perform Blu-ray in the marketplace, there will be no Blu-ray exclusive studios ...including Sony. The loss would be too great for them to justify to shareholders. The same holds true for our friends at Universal. If Blu-ray pulls ahead, they will be churning out titles in that format by Christmas.

I think some of the Lionsgate/HD DVD speculation goes back to the interview with James Spader where, when asked about how many versions of Stargate we'll be seeing on home video in 2007, he said that he and Kurt Russell were recording a new "visual commentary for an upcoming high definition DVD version of Stargate". He didn't actually say "HD DVD". A lot of people refer to everything (Blu-ray and HD DVD) as such, so it's hard to tell.

Studio Canal may be doing something outside the States for Stargate. That's the only logical explanation I can come up with, if LG isn't going HD DVD.

Well I know I had read a while back that Stargate was supposed to be a march release for Studio Canal, but it wasn't mentioned with the current march releases. So its possible, but from what I have read I haven't seen any of their releases with any commentary or extras so to speak. So in all honesty unless they are planning a re-release of Stargate on Blu-ray, then they very well might be planning to go neutral. Just my opinion really.

I'm resistant to BD, just not that desperate for content when I have so many HD stations and not even enough time to watch. I feel loyal to HD DVD and will never defect....I just don't think either format will gain a sizable foothold for a long long time

I think it's counterproductive to be against either of the HD formats at this time. I feel that as movie enthusiasts we should support both formats, and I personally would not like to see either of them die off at this time. Instead I am in favor of the combo player becoming standard and both formats living on as is the case with DVD-R and DVD+R.

At this time the bottom line is both formats have a lot going for them, and they are both monumentally better then DVD. For less then $1000 you can own both (and that includes some free HD DVD movies), and from now on that is the option I will recomend to people rather then pushing one format as I have done in the past.

Blu-ray players sold thru the end of 2006 has been pretty insignificant, and considering PS3 has only been available for less than 2 months, I don't think LionsGate would make a decision to go neutral without giving Blu-ray a chance. I honestly don't see them making a decision until 3Q 2007 at the earliest.

...LG (Lucky Gold)...FWIW, Lucky Goldstar, not Lucky Gold, although they seemed to have changed their name to LG Electronics now.
