I'm looking for a pair of headphones to listen to my MP3 player with (I am thinking of getting a new MP3 player as well, more on that later). But anyway, I'm looking for a solid set of headphones. Willing to spend up to $200. Fine with buying off the internet. Hoping to find a pair that will isolate outside noises, but doesn't require a battery to do so (don't know what that term would be). I will also be doing casual DJ mixing, but that's not a big concern. Main thing - Listening to mp3/cd player. Thanks in advance!

Also for an Mp3 player - I don't want an iPod or a Creative M/W. I'd like something that could maybe play video, but that's not a biggie. I'd like it to be 30 gb or higher, but I could roll with a smaller 6-30 gigger. TIA again.

Dapreview's top mp3 players along the right side. I agree with them.

I've narrowed headphones down to 2-

http://www.amazon.com/o/ASIN/B0001FTVE0/ref=s9_asin_title_1/002-7000145-4751212

HD-280PRO at $80

or the HD-555's at $95
http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-HD555-HD-555-Audiophile-Headphones/dp/B0001FTVDQ/sr=1-2/qid=1168126795/ref=pd_bbs_2/002-7000145-4751212?ie=UTF8&s=electronics

I don't know which one to get, I'd like the better sound of the 555's, but I really would like noise isolation (in and out).

For the Mp3 player -

The Creative Zen W - 30gb @ $285
http://www.amazon.com/Creative-Vision-Widescreen-Multimedia-Player/dp/B000IF4TPY/sr=8-4/qid=1168126569/ref=pd_bbs_4/002-7000145-4751212?ie=UTF8&s=electronics

or the Cowon A2 ~$270
http://www.amazon.com/Cowon-A2-Portable-Multimedia-Player/dp/B000CS1JRS/sr=8-1/qid=1168126569/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/002-7000145-4751212?ie=UTF8&s=electronics

Decisions decisions....

I have the HD280's, and with I've heard many say they're the best sub-$100 closed headphone available. I wouldn't hesitate to pick up a set.

The Etymonics ER-4p and the ER6i. I don't know why, but I can't really justify a 100-150 purchase for ear buds... But they would give me isolation, and portability...

If you're now considering earbuds (which I didn't think would work as well for DJ use?), you should definitely look at the Ultimate Ears in addition to Etymonics. In particular, check out the Super.fi 3 and Super.fi 5 Pro models. These are dual-driver noise-isolating buds, and you'll find lots of positive comments on this and other forums.

I have the Super.fi 5 Pros and absolutely love them. They come in a very nice brushed metal case with a 1/4" adapter and an attenuator (if needed), and have a wide assortment of both foam and neoprene eartips to ensure a tight fit. I like the fact that the cable forms a 'hook' that goes over your ear so they don't fall out even if something tugs on the cable. I have a lot of trouble finding buds that will stay put in my ears, but these work very well.

If you look around you can find some decent prices on them - I got a new pair on eBay for less than even the Internet retailers.

Worth a look if you're going to invest in pro-quality buds.

I have used the Sure high end buds and the Etymotics ER 4 and 6 and I can say that the Etymotics are worth every penny. I use mine daily at the gym so they get a lot or wear and tear as well as sweat. I had a short in one of the cords of my ER 4s after two years of use and they replaced them in less than 48 hours. Not tried the Ultimate Ears.

I have bought several different Ear Bud Headphones. My Bose IE have great low frequency punch but lack mid range. Also they require more power to produce a normal sound level and keep falling out of my ears. Finally I found Ear Bud Headphones that only cost $30, fit good and sound great. I highly recommend the Philips Ear Bud Headphones Model SHE9500. You won't be disappointed (unless you love to burn money).
