This just posted on Videobusiness.com. Mentions an AVS poll as well.

Yikes. Scary that our polls get quoted. What next, people using our actual comments to back up their articles?

I can see it now ...."blah blah blah blah blah is great news for blue ray" says thebland from AVS forum.

no offense "thebland" just playing with ya.

Maybe if they doubled their testing to say, maybe 2 of each unit, they might have found the problems before release ;)

I love the comment "Genius executives are researching the matter and hope to have customer complaints resolved soon."

Well, gee, I sure hope they're really smart! :)

I love the last line of the article: VB has not experienced problems with discs from other studios. Seems like they researched for about 5mins before they wrote this "article".

I find it very hard to believe they are not aware of any problems. I think they had a run of bad pressings and are just hoping that everyone will buy them and do nothing about it and eventually the new pressings will just work itself out. Good business practice would be to recall all defective discs from the consumers and replace them free of charge.

I have The Matador and Derailed, ordered both a few days ago from Amazon.com and both arrived yesterday. Both played through fine, but The Matador takes 2 1/2 minutes to boot to the menu screen, Derailed on the other hand works like any other HD DVD I own. This is on a HD-A1 with firmware 2.0

Despite sitting through 80-someodd HD DVDs, I can't, and neither could they. I don't see how that last line is laughable.

With the exception of End of Days which is widely reported to have skipping issues and I can verify this to be true, there are no HD DVD's from any other studio causing these kinds of major problems.

If you're playing this on an A1 or XA1 it may be the player.
Does it skip on the (X)A2 or the HD-DVD add-on for the 360?

Or (clicks heals together with glee) with forthcoming LG dual format players? :)

It's the discs, do a search and you'll see it's been widely reported. It's not the player when every other HD DVD disc I own, which is over 50 by the way, plays just fine.

Hey, that was my poll. I'm famous :)

I like this line “We are aware that unforeseen issues involving the variability of players". It's not like there are dozens of different players.

Well, I just had Wolf Creek refuse to play on my Toshiba tonight. The only other disc I've had trouble with was End of Days skipping. I guess stumbling onto this thread solves both mysteries.

"We take every precaution in testing our HD DVD titles and strive to provide our customers with the highest standard of products in the business,” said Michael Radiloff, executive VP of marketing at Genius."

What there is a total of 4 HD DVD players. I know millions of combo's like PC testing.

The only Weinstein disk I've tried was Derailed. The first time I popped it in my A1 it spun for a while and then said "no disk". I opened and closed the drive, and it loaded up lightning quick and played without a hitch.

My copy of End of Days played flawlessly as well.

Both were from online rental stores, fwiw.
