I have been running my system RGB only using an NRS, having a CRT projector and a plasma display. I am now looking at some new processor options and have a question about HDMI and HDCP protection.

If my new processor is HDCP compliant, and I use an HDMI input from the SA 8300 DVR, I know I can display this on the plasma using HDMI output. I also know that I cannot display this input on the CRT projector, which requires RGBHV, as this output is disabled when using the HDMI input. So I would need to use a YPrPb output from the 8300 to use the CRT. Correct me if I am wrong.

My question is, if the plasma display is OFF, as when using the CRT at night, will the mere fact that the HDMI output of the SA8300 is connected to the processor cause the YPrPB outputs of the 8300 DVR to shutdown? This is definitely what happens when I directly connect the plasma to the 8300 via HDMI. I have to unplug the HDMI cable to use the analog outputs if the plasma is turned off. I am hoping that an HDCP compliant processor will provide the "handshake" for the 8300 DVR to keep the outputs on even when the plasma is switched off, as long as an analog input on the processor is selected. If not, then how do people cope with this major limitation of mixed analog/digital systems?

In the case of the vp50, if you're using an analog input, then you can use an analog output. It doesn't matter what's going on with the HDMI output.
