View Full Version : Strange web issues accessing AVS

I know you guys are working on some server load issues, but I've started experiencing some strange behavior that you may want to know about. I'm having lots of problems getting no response (cannot find server messages). I can refresh to my heart's content, but no dice. BUT, the strange thing is, I can "fix" it by just opening up a new Explorer issue, and BAM! AVS is up again. I can browse a bit, then it will stop responding, and I switch back to the other window, and it works again. I'm only experiencing it with AVS, so perhaps this is a glitch with the load balancing system?

Anyway, just thought I'd let you guys know.

Hi...

Thanks for the report. At the time you posted it I was still working on the tweaking of the settings and may have made for the issue. Right now I have stopped to see what would happen.

What you were seeing is the one connection from that one browser was staying on a server that I had down. When you opened the other window, it made a new connection and this got the address of an active server. Then I moved on to that server and it stopped for you but the other was alive again.

In any case, let see how it goes now. (Gulp)

I haven't seen the issue yet this morning, nor during the short time I was on last night. I wasn't on during the earlier part of the evening after you posted. So my limited experience so far suggests that it's fixed! :)

FWIW though, I don't THINK that it was DIRECTLY caused when you would take down a server and bring another one up... unless you did that back and forth about 20 times yesterday. It would work a few minutes, then stop, and a new window would work while the old one still didn't, then a few minutes would pass and the new window would stop working, forcing me to open a new window again (or sometimes swithing back to the old window worked if it was still open). I wasn't counting, but this happened at LEAST ten times, but probably more. I don't doubt that having a server down was the culprit, but at least from my perspective, it SEEMED as if the load balancer would just decide at some point to switch me to a different server, and some times it would switch me to a server that wasn't up.

Regardless, all seems well now. Thanks!

Right now, I'm getting a 404 when trying to access www.avsforum.com/avs-vb. If I go to the home address and then go to the main forums index link, I get the same problem. Seems I can go direct to this forum though from the menu.

Ok, I can confirm that that address doesn't work for me either. Though I'm not sure if/when I use that one. Normally I go straight to http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/usercp.php? which gets me to my subscribed threads and forums, and that has been working fine for me.

Man...I am just at a loss as to what is making for this for I can not make it happen. I will open a support ticket for the load balancer.

Had to bypass front page to get to forums. Weird stuff.

Clicking on a thread in the DVD forum results in "Could not find site" "do you want to diagnose your web connection"

Hello...

I just just running some tests on each of the servers at the time you had seen the issue. The problem should not be seen at this time.

Thanks
