I'm finally getting my media room set up for home theater, and I need to find a screen for as close to $300 or less if possible. I'm new to the whole home theater thing, so I don't think I need top of the line to enjoy it. It's in a window-less room, so ambient light isn't a problem. I have an Infocus ScreenPlay 4805, which seems to be a popular model.
I'm on a serious budget since I have a house to sell and a baby on the way, and the wife already went through the whole audio purchase experience.
Is it better to buy a screen for this low price or should I build one myself (and if so, which one)? Also, does anyone know any good shelves to mount the projector on?
Your help is really appreciated, thanks!
Anyone out there with relatively inexpensive screens, or did y'all pay too much? :p

I built my own screen for about $120 and its worked out great. There are a couple threads listed in my signature that show and explain what I did. Many others have done DIY and there is a whole sub forum to this one that deals with DIY.
There are also some fairly good roll down screens in your price range I’m told. But IMO in a dedicated room a fixed screen works out much better. Roll down screens of the less expensive type seem to often report wave problems.
At least come over to the DIY forum and look around for a week before you buy. The same logic that is used there will help you decide on a regular screen if you go that way.

I got an Elite (Gray) 92" for $299 at TigerDirect.com
They have a Elite 106" (White) or a 100" Gray for $399
I know this isn't exactly what you're looking for (price-wise), but I think it's a nice screen. I currently have an X1 on a 92" Gray and it looks great.
Yeah, it looks like it's either DIY or Saaria/Elite/Grandview. I really don't want pulldown, yuck. Anyone know of something else? I've somewhat resolved myself to go with Saaria and group. I hope that their shadiness doesn't screw me over!

Why the Yuck on pulldowns?

You can get an electric retractable 108" screen from monoprice for $124
I don't like pulldowns, that's all.

The ones I suggested were all fixed frame. Is the brand the issue?
Hw are the fotodiox screens for someone on a budget? I have been looking at the 93" myself.
I'd post a link, but I gusee I'm too new to do so...
