View Full Version : Will you re-buy the X360 for HDMI?
I'm curious whom of you that own a unit now, will be getting another X360 when the HDMI version comes out. If so, what are you doing with your existing unit?
(IF this actually exists)
I for one will be getting the new unit. I already own multiple X360 hardware since I run a tournament company, but my personal X360 in use now will likely be traded in or given to my brother's family.
I need the 120 HDD for marketplace content and the cooler chip should make these last a while. Plus I own a Samsung 1080p DLP and I have MANY more options for image tweaks via HDMI than VGA. And finally, owning the HD DVD player, I'd rather play 1080p over HDMI than VGA. I hate the VGA color profile.
So, how about you guys?
FootballDen 01-07-07, 08:31 AM Now there is an option, i could sell it to my dad for 300 and pay for the new xbox with hdmi
I'll buy a separate 120GB hard drive (assuming MS releases one), but I have no use for HDMI in my home theater at present. This may change if I ever get a new receiver, but I'm in no great hurry to replace my H/K AVR 430.
Andrew67 01-07-07, 09:43 AM Only if it's cooler and quieter.
Villanman 01-07-07, 10:01 AM I planned on buying a second one for my household anyway so my 15 year old son could have is own 360. We already have 2 live accounts 2 PS2's and 2 original Xbox's. If it wasn't for getting a PS3 and a Wii this christmas, I probably would have already purchased a second 360. So I'm not going to rebuy....I'll just be buying one as a second 360.
There is no choice for that, so I didn't vote.
Now there is an option, i could sell it to my dad for 300 and pay for the new xbox with hdmi
Hmmm It's like ripping off your own dad and giving him the dinosaur!
AHDTVDiet 01-07-07, 10:12 AM I need a Maybe option because I havent made up my mind. Depends on a lot of things. Also depends on if I can get a good trade in. But I guess I could give my current 360 as a gift to someone or sell it cheap to them. I have a friend who is currently borrowing my old Xbox. There will be a market of people who dont need the latest and greatest but would still like better then they have.

I will purchase the extra console. That will be 3 in the house.
btw; my launch console got the three lights of death last night. MS is sending me the box.
Later
If I have a 1080p tv, I would defintely get it!
That Other Guy 01-07-07, 12:35 PM I still have a 720p tv, so not now. I would like to get the 120gig hard drive.
karlw2000 01-07-07, 12:40 PM I've got 3 HD TVs/monitors (5 if you include 2 20" widescreen computer monitors) and 2 xbox360's. I would gladly buy another one for my plasma which has 2 HDMI inputs. I haven't connected the VGA because it is a pain in the A to get to the back of my plasma with both the VGA cable and audio cables. A simple HDMI cable would be perfect.
markenglert 01-07-07, 12:45 PM With my current setup my HDMI port is taken by the PS3, my TV doesn't do 1080p or handle upscaled DVDs very well (Panny Plasma) so I'm fine where I am.
Since I got my 360 very recently and got the Best Buy 2-year replacement plan, I suppose I could trade the thing in for the new model if it comes out in the next 2 years... or trade it in and get a new one with a NEW 2-year replacement plan if it doesn't. I'd have to get a new receiver with two HDMI inputs though...
Gotta use those in-store warranties for SOMETHING.
Chief Ediri 01-07-07, 01:05 PM Who needs to rebuy when you can return yours with a product replacement plan?
cdub998 01-07-07, 01:20 PM Only the HD for me. Don't care that much about hdmi.
chbak014 01-07-07, 01:26 PM Now there is an option, i could sell it to my dad for 300 and pay for the new xbox with hdmi
i hope my kids aren't like you. ;)
Only the HD for me. Don't care that much about hdmi.
Same for me. I'll pay for that. If my 360 craps out next December when my 2yr warranty runs out, I'll get another one then... and I'll get it from Costco.
Don't need HDMI on the xbox 360 at this point, I've got a stand alone HD-DVD player, dvd player that use HDMI already, mu TV would see no overall improvment using HDMI over commponet.
ogbuehi 01-07-07, 02:21 PM I'll be buying it for the bigger HDD. The HDMI just adds options but I don't really need it at this point. You know though, something just occurred to me. Will you be able to upconvert DVD's via the digital output? That will really sway me to get one for that reason also.
r3plica 01-07-07, 02:30 PM Even though i just got my 360 in October, i will gladly buy the new hardware and delegate the old one to be a media center extender in either the computer room or the bedroom.
My TV only accepts 1080P through HDMI, I don't mind donating my current 360 to a family member. Besides, isn't HDMI the only way to pass DD+ and TrueHD audio to a receiver?
I will trade in my 360 I have now towards the new one,I have a 1080P set so I need HDMI.When I trade in my original 360 how will I be able to transfer all my game saves and other data on the old hard drive to the new one???? I don`t have the money to buy a new 360 so the old 360 is gonna pay for part of it.
randy5554 01-07-07, 02:44 PM Only if it's cooler and quieter.
Seconded.
Truckondo 01-07-07, 02:45 PM I have a replacement plan on mine so I had to vote NO. Mine has minor issues at the moment but I can wait for the 2nd revision to replace it.
The question should have been: "Will you rebuy the new xbox revision each year just like you would if you had a PC?"
Antiochus 01-07-07, 03:15 PM Yes. Because I wanted a second one anyway for full screen co-op gaming.
metalsaber 01-07-07, 04:00 PM Not for awhile. My current one works just fine.
But will it have a HD DVD drive as well?
Naveed148 01-07-07, 04:34 PM I will be buying my first unit for this reason. One of the main reasons I held out so long. This, and a pricedrop, could go a far way in making me go over to the MS side
whityfrd 01-07-07, 04:42 PM well microsoft screwed up in the long run intitially by not having built in hd movie playback capabilities. now theyve screwed up by not initially adding an hdmi output on their console. I have no need for hdmi or 1080p at the moment so i wont be getting this one. if my console ever dies again and needs a replacement, theyd better send me a new one for free with hdmi.
Azn Tr14dZ 01-07-07, 04:46 PM I'll only get it if Microsoft has an Upgrade Option for current owners. I just got my Xbox 360 a month ago, and I don't think it sucks (that they're releasing a new Xbox 360), but if I had known I would've waited.
mmafightetnow 01-07-07, 04:51 PM Hell No! ain't that dumb.
I doubt you can tell the difference.
pdawg17 01-07-07, 04:52 PM Same for me. I'll pay for that. If my 360 craps out next December when my 2yr warranty runs out, I'll get another one then... and I'll get it from Costco.
Don't get it from my Costco...they just changed their return policy to 30 days.... :(
Jbagger7 01-07-07, 05:37 PM No.
SC0TLANDF0REVER 01-07-07, 07:01 PM I want to have all HDMI components eventually, so I'll get one.
Especially if it has a bigger HDD.
jrichar3 01-07-07, 07:05 PM I will buy the Xbox 360 2.0 with HDMI, I have had mine since day one. While I don't have a HDTV, or surround sound. I plan on getting everything I need for 1080p set up.
Got to get it for HD. 1080P for HD-DVD's without crappy VGA.
No. My TV is native 720p and it looks great over component. I don't have a DD+ capable receiver (well just a vintage 80s stereo receiver actually) so I won't see any possible advantage there.
I would like a larger hard drive though as I am constantly cleaning it off to make room for more downloadable content from the XBOX Live Marketplace.
I'm a bit unsure of how legit that picture was though. That really didn't look like a final product to me.
Azn Tr14dZ 01-07-07, 08:51 PM I'm sure they'll sell the hard drive as a stand-alone as well so us current Xbox 360 owners can have 120Gb.
CommanderCool 01-07-07, 09:28 PM i would......i would probably sell my current one on ebay...then use that money to buy the new one
TRALFAZ 01-07-07, 10:04 PM Bigger harddrive & HDMI ?? I'm an MS biatch, of course I will pick one up. :D
djorijun 01-08-07, 01:43 AM I probably wouldn't just because it took me so long to buy the one I own now. I would love to have the HDMI but if I have to buy another one, I say no.
Nolbi-Wan 01-08-07, 01:50 AM Don't get it from my Costco...they just changed their return policy to 30 days.... :(
is this confirmed? I thought it was only for TVs. Didnt know it was for all electronics. The only reason i bought my 360 from them was for their return policy. Not because its abusable but because something eventually will go wrong.
cnickersonjr 01-08-07, 02:19 AM I said "NO" until I read that my 360 could be used as a HD-DVR someday.
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=9389737&&#post9389737
Now my vote is "HELL YES" bring on the IPTV.
Hell yeah! Well, sort of. I will dump the old one.
The current 360 is no work of art and it makes a real weak AV device. It is loud, has a bad reliability problem, and the whole 11 gig drive and no way to write to an external 3rd party drive nonsense is just stupid.
If they make a new 360 that runs quieter, more reliable, has larger HDD, HDMI out, and (hopefully) an internal HD-DVD... Look out because I am IN LIKE FLYNN!!!
FrankJ.Cone 01-08-07, 06:50 AM As a MCE user I would rebuy for Vista cablecard support.
Kingram 01-08-07, 10:45 AM Anyone know the return policy( Days) for Best Buy and Target?? for Consoles
mrmiller1972 01-08-07, 11:02 AM The question should have been: "Will you rebuy the new xbox revision each year just like you would if you had a PC?"
I was thinking more in the lines of the iPOD. Millions of people seem to jump on each new version of the iPod that comes out with minimal tweaks and improvements, so I'm sure 360v2 will sell like crazy too.
=MATT=
MisterNJ 01-08-07, 11:05 AM My TV only does 720p/1080i so its not really all that necessary for me.
my94r/t 01-08-07, 11:40 AM I wont re-buy just for the HDMI, but if it does come out before my replacement warrenty is up in Feb 08, I foresee a couple issues with my current unit.
Then again, who knows. Its a ways away. I would just be happy to have a cooler/quieter system.
Chitown1211 01-08-07, 11:50 AM I'll only get it if Microsoft has an Upgrade Option for current owners. I just got my Xbox 360 a month ago, and I don't think it sucks (that they're releasing a new Xbox 360), but if I had known I would've waited.
I second that. I wont buy a new one unless there is some type of compensation for us who bought the V1. I bought 2 at launch.
If/When they are available at Costco, yes I'll swap mine.
FiveMillionWays 01-08-07, 02:19 PM I was going to buy a second unit anyway!
I was thinking more in the lines of the iPOD. Millions of people seem to jump on each new version of the iPod that comes out with minimal tweaks and improvements, so I'm sure 360v2 will sell like crazy too.
ya, people are stupid, it appear you cannot replace the battery on the iPod, so you can only throw it in the bin and buy another one. It's like buying a printer from a corp that say publicly that next year there won't be any way to buy new ink nor refill your current pak. Spending cash to be doomed. The masses like that it seem.
The Xbox360 is like most american cars. They are nice, they work for a while but they have the strange habit of performing self-destruction before their 'expected' term. At least, american cars replacement parts are cheap compared to the oversee ones.
Keep on spending..!
I don't plan on buying/returning the HDMI 360.
I do however plan on "cashing in" my BB replacement plan on my existing unit so long as the v2 unit is out before mid-december of this year, which is when my plan expires ;)
I already get the E-72 (74?) error fairly frequently on startup, so I already have an excuse in line :D
DeepFreezed 01-08-07, 07:56 PM I will get that IPTV anyways. sounds like a good deal.
briankmonkey 01-08-07, 08:59 PM no, but I would use my replacement warranty to swap out for the better model. That's if they truly do make a revision and release a model the way it should have been from day 1.
ClayPigeon 01-08-07, 09:02 PM Remember when msoft went on the defensive about how "HDMI isn't needed for HD" Now they go and do this.
wokisan 01-08-07, 09:05 PM With a view to getting an upgraded tv in the next year I have to say yes. Plus it will give me an opportunity (ie excuse) to mod my older 360.
I would say, hell no! Unless they take back the old one at half its original price or more.
Or, unless the HDMI units don't drop like flies, as the first units do.
Remember when msoft went on the defensive about how "HDMI isn't needed for HD" Now they go and do this.
Ah well, they don't have a choice...right?
First they said "You don't need a HD drive.", then they added a HD add-on.
Then they said "1080p is impossible.", then they added support for it.
The they said "HDMI is useless.", now they plan to add it.
You can trust them as much as Sony.

When and where did they say any of those? I think you are either twisting what they said for your entertainment or you completely misunderstood everything they said.
pierce x 01-08-07, 10:46 PM hell yes! just for the HDMI alone!
csmith75 01-08-07, 11:17 PM Nope....HDMI isn't enough for me (besides my PS3 is taking up my HDMI port). I am interested in the larger hard drive though.
yamahaSHO 01-10-07, 11:16 PM I'm hoping that (since I hear the video card is the problem not being able to output digital signals) I'll be able to pick up the new video card and swap it for the old one (of course breaking my warranty). If that were the case, I'm sure M$ will have a proprietary cable for this, which I wouldn't be too upset with if it could give me HDMI with my current 360.
Does this make sense?

Why would you need a special cable???? HDMI is HDMI. And this would NOT happen unless you got a new 360 off of Ebay or something that was being parted out. They are not going to allow their customers to knowingly break their warranty.
yamahaSHO 01-11-07, 12:16 AM Why would you need a special cable???? HDMI is HDMI.
If you were to replace the card and NOT open up the case to hold TWO ports (regular A/V and HDMI), you would need something that can accommodate both. Hence the special cable. It would have to look like the original. A standard RCA cable has two ends with RCA connections, right? However, if you look at the current configuration, The opposite end of the component/RCA has a proprietary plug for the Xbox, just like about every system produced after the Original Nintendo.
And this would NOT happen unless you got a new 360 off of Ebay or something that was being parted out. They are not going to allow their customers to knowingly break their warranty.
The 360 has been out over a year, some are already out of warranty and more 1st gen consoles will be hitting that mark as time passes.

You make no sense, and must like soldering.
Anyway, it's the scaler, not the GPU.

I've never opened my 360. I don't know if it is soldered on or not. I'm not aware if it is just a motherboard with everything soldered on, or if it has daughter cards. I don't like soldering, however, I'm fully qualified for multi-layer, high reliability soldering.
As far as I was told, the graphics card wasn't capable of outputing digital. I don't keep up too much on gaming systems, I would just like HDMI as my TV has two inputs and I would like to take advantage of them.

Azn Tr14dZ 01-11-07, 05:17 PM Do you really need the "new" Xbox 360 to have IPTV? I'm sure Microsoft will sell the (120Gb) Hard Drive by itself, so can't we still get IPTV if we upgrade the Hard Drive from 20Gb to 120Gb?
danieloneil01 01-12-07, 12:24 AM http://www.thatgameblog.com/2007/01/06/more-fuel-to-the-hdmi-fire/
GrooveRite 01-12-07, 09:12 AM No. Don't need it.....and yes, I have a 1080p set. The games looks absolutely spectacular to me. For movies, I'm planning on buying an HD-DVD player or a Blu-Ray player. End of story.
Ktulu_1 01-12-07, 09:21 AM I have 2 Xbox 360s. WTF would I do with 3 of them?
properbostonian 01-12-07, 09:29 AM Not for me. I am very happy with the way things look and sound now. I will only consider it if MS gives me a compelling reason to upgrade. Because I only have a 46" inch DLP I doubt HDMI would make that much of a difference for me.

Invite more friends over, order more pizza and make more margaritas... that's what I do. :D
ClaytonD 01-12-07, 10:09 AM Considering I just bought a 360 in mid-December, I don't think so. Unless, we get so hooked on it in my house and want to do multi-player. I'm perfectly happy with the performance over VGA. I'd rather spend the money on a PS3 and have the best of both worlds.
5harkology 01-12-07, 12:20 PM Can someone explain to me what noticable benefit HDMI is ACTUALLY going to add to the xbox package (other than another connection option for HDDVD other than vga)?

Yeah you take this too seriously to come up with adding options is a bad thing for every person that is interested in a system. You have got to be fu*king kidding me. :D

We didn't know about the scaler issue until after the PS3 was released. But I guess Sony is okay because since they didn't mention this thinking it wasn't a problem they are in the clear. But HD starts when they say it does  That was a very vague statment.
I'm happy w/ my launch unit. I may upgrade to the 120gb drive if i decide to give IPTV a whirl in year or so.
Has this even been confirmed? I've seen speculation, but nothing concrete, anyone have a link?
I have 2 Xbox 360s. WTF would I do with 3 of them?
I will buy 3 HDMI Xbox 360's when the come out so I can play Forza 2 with 3 42" TV's running off 3 consoles for 180 degree full immersion gaming.
Since this game and the consoles will probably come out at the same time I am waiting to buy. Does HDMI really matter to me? Only because it reduces the amount of cables I will have running around these three TV's :)
ogbuehi 01-13-07, 07:36 PM Is this really coming out now? I was expecting some type of announcement during CES. I guess I've been duped.

Microsoft admitted that yes they do have it and the one you see is theirs, but they say it's just being tested and they don't know what will become of it.
Most of us agree it's being tested for IPTV, and you WILL see it.
ogbuehi 01-14-07, 07:01 AM That's with the 120GB HDD? For no more than the price of the current premium system?

No one knows those things yet. That's the rumor though. I'd say we'll hear more in March when PS3 goes to Europe.
leftkidney 01-14-07, 09:05 AM not only would I rebuy the 360 for the HDMI I already have 3 of them 1 or 2 more would be no problem
on a realated topic look at this post from me
http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=579101
Since my 60XBR2 will only accept 1080P over HDMI, I have been waiting for MS to implement HDMI before I would buy the 360. Now with a cooler processor to reduce the excessive heat & noise in the unit, I will definitely buy the v2 360. Its about time!!
only if hd-dvd is the clear winner. By then then the xbox 720 will be out so it won't matter. Componant is more than fine for me until then, even with the hd-dvd player
OgOgilby 01-14-07, 12:35 PM Is this a rumor or does someone have a link to the info?

According to a pre-CES briefing that Windows expert Paul Thurrott received from his Microsoft pals, the big M will be coming out with a new version of the Xbox 360 (Zephyer?) at the end of 2007, which will feature a larger HDD and some new hardware to enable that IPTV functionality Robbie Bach was talking about during the Microsoft CES keynote. It also stands to reason that such a Xbox 360 might be sporting a fancy new HDMI port and perhaps run just a wee bit cooler -- meaning HDCP and less fan noise, natural fits for home theater use. It still seems a bit unreasonable for Microsoft, which has been bragging about its 10 million strong installed base, to leave those early adopters out in the cold, but if that's the way it goes down we can't say we won't welcome the excuse to ditch the fan and disc drive hullabaloo of our current gen box.

terryb28 01-15-07, 10:22 PM I've noticed a few people mention how they aren't interested in a 360 with an HDMI connection b/c their set is only 720P or 1080i. And I was wondering: are the visual improvements through HDMI only noticeable with a 1080P tv? Is there any reason to use HDMI if my tv is 720P?
