View Full Version : chicago & earth wind and fire review
1loudsuv 01-07-07, 02:50 PM ok to start off with i was really disappointed in it not having the enhanced features like my other hd-dvd's, like being able to look at what scenes are available while the hd-dvd is playing it.would of been a neat feature so i could just to directly to another song.
the concert itself was very good i must say (this i coming from someone who mostly listings to rap and hip hop) starts off with both the main singers and i think the earth wind and fire band playing for both then they flip a coin to see who goes first etc etc etc
the sound (dolby digital plus 5.1 or 2.0) well since i only have a home theater in a box system (getting def techs 700's and matching center channel in the next week) i took it with brother who bought my old polk towers and svs ultra/2 and it sounded amazing. I took it back to my house and heard it on my setup and it sounded pretty good, but not as good as my eagles hd-dvd which ill be reviewing when i watch the whole thing later.
the picture quality when i was picking it up i noticed it was only 1080i i was wanting to just leave it and just buy the others. i played it first on my brothers setup which is a 32"sony it wasn't to impressive( take this in mind ive never seen anything on high def on his tv) ok so i bring it back to my house (60" xbr1)
WOW very good picture quality defiantly up in tier 1 i dunno but i like the look of it more then say hulk. on my display the hulk isn't as consistent but does have a couple of scenes that just wow me more then the C&EWAF but overall i like the pictures quality of chicago and earth wind and fire more then hulk.
Marc Alexander 01-07-07, 02:56 PM Sounds like the same concert that airs on HDNet.

It opens with both groups playing each others songs together. The sound was good I was not thrilled with the vocals being somewhat buried and no vocals from center speaker with them coming only thru the left and right main speakers. But the EWF performances were amazing. Chicago's lead vocals were lacking except for Lamm's.
I really enjoyed this concert...man I did feel old watching it though.

It is.
1loudsuv 01-07-07, 07:12 PM wow this is the first hd-dvd that has resume :o
DrCrawn 01-07-07, 09:27 PM Your review would be a lot better if you took an extra 2 minutes to work out some of your grammar issues. Anytime a reader stumbles over your sentences your arguments don't come though as strongly. Seriously, no offense, but make the effort please.
Since I have this disc I will make some observations:
Top notch PQ, but not as dramatic looking as Heart. The important thing really is the sound quality, which I found to be great. IMO, buy this disc if you enjoy the bands, not for PQ.
WirelessGuru 01-07-07, 10:02 PM chicago & earth wind and fire reviewAlready reviewed and discussed way back when it came out:

narcopolo 01-07-07, 10:16 PM wow this is the first hd-dvd that has resume
Does that mean if you power off the player and then turn it back on it continues where it left off?
I bought this one for my wife for Christmas. On my SXRD it looks very good, similar to the Heart HD DVD. IMHO, EW&F sounds great as does Chicago, with the exception of the guitarist who sings Peter Cetera's vocals and quite frankly butchers them. 25 or 6 to 4 is especially bad. But all-in-all a really nice HD DVD for fans of either band.

It's actually the bassist/bass player not the guitarist who is woefully trying to sing Peter Cetera's vocals along with some from EWF's catalog.
Good catch Reginald. And the lead guitarist is very good... The dueling solos with the EWF guitarist on 25 or 6 to 4 were hot!
I picked this disk up after Christmas, with hopes of watching it at my daughter and son in law's on there X-BOX 360 with the HD-DVD add on, on their 1080p monitor, but it locks up their system when it opens the menu. Anybody else having this problem or know the fix for it? My son in law claims their system updates itself over the internet, so it should be running the latest software.

no i thought it did :( if you push stop and play it goes back to the same spot thats about it
WirelessGuru,
Thanks for the post. I hadn't seen the other thread about this disk.
Update on the issue with playing this disk on the Xbox 360 add on. Like the other thread states, if you press the "OK" button on the remote it will play. Got to watch some of this disk last night and it looks and sounds very good.
pedra12 01-11-07, 10:54 AM I picked this disc up over the holidays and played it (on the A1) for some friends last weekend. We all were really amazed with the sound. The vocals weren't as strong as I would've liked be the overall band performances were stellar. From what people have been saying here, I may have to pick up the Heart disc as well.
