Hi everyone – I'm new to the forum and really need some help. I have an issue with my DVD player and a TV I inherited. It’s not an HDTV but a good Sony Trinitron (weighs over 250lbs) with good definition, pre-HD. I use component cables from a respectable Sony 5-disc DVD player. Since connecting it to the new TV, I get a faint, white, vertical, line that consistently crosses the screen from left to right. It’s very faint and slow, but it being faint makes it very annoying because you end of looking for it…and it’s difficult to focus on anything else. So my troubleshooting was to try new component cable, a different DVD player, a different Video In (which was RCA on the front of the TV due to the weight and location of the TV), a lens cleaner, a different outlet – still there.
It’s not the cable. The other DVD player was an older Sony and the line was worse. The different Video In was to see if the Video In that the component cable was going into was the problem, and if the moving line was a result of the definition being higher with component cable and a higher definition TV. The line was worse with RCAs. Different outlet and lens cleaner did not help. A guy at Radio Shack suggested that the cables may be too close to the power strip, which could be the case and I haven’t tried separating that yet and don't know how to deal with interference, if it even is interference. I have a few light dimmers and read that could be an issue but I turned the power off on pretty much everything in the apartment, and the line was still there. My DVD player is about a year old and the older one had an even worse line with cables further from any outlet. Is it the player? Everyone I've asked said that the player shouldn't be the issue.
If anyone has had a similar experience or knows about this, your help would be greatly appreciated. Looking at your posts, you guys definitely know what you’re talking about. After moving and setting up a 250 lb TV, this issue is frustrating.
Thanks in advance,
pete
