View Full Version : Error correction player for scaler

Hello,

I am looking to find a DVD player with the following characteristics:

1) Output well suited for input to a DVDO® iScan™ VP50 scaler.
2) Well made so it lasts more than 1 year (should last closer to 5+ years)
3) Has good error-correction to seemlessly handle scratched disks from the library and DVD rental store. I would think having multiple lasers would be best to sample the DVD from multiple angles.

Please let me know any models you think might come close to fitting these parameters.

Thanks.

There's a list of players with 480i via HDMI at the top of the forum. I'd just get a Oppo 970 and replace it if it ever breaks - no indications that is will. It's only $150.

Hi,

I see there that it is best to feed the scaler a normal 480i signal which is as clean as possible, so it needs to come out of the player's digital output.

I'll include here that list:

Pioneer Elite 79avi
Pioneer Elite 59avi
Sony DVP-NS975V
Arcam DV79
Marantz DV9600
Classe CDP-300
SigmaTek XMB-510
LG LDA-511
NeuNeo HVD2085 (latest firmware as of 3-14-2006)
LG DVX9900H
Oppo 970HD
Pio DV490-V
Denon 2930
Denon 3930
Onkyo DV-404

However, I wonder which of those has the best error recovery for scratched disks? The Oppo 970HD seems cost effective at $150, but it makes no mention of error recovery.

Thanks.

Try looking in the 970HD thread and see if people are complaining about Netflix discs.
