I tried calibrating my setup through my Avia DVD, but my TV always looked a bit muddy, especially at HD resolutions.
I wasn't really able to get my TV (Panny TH42PX50U) calibrated properly until I used the PS3 Blu-Ray code (7669) with Black Hawk Down. It gave me a series of calibration screens at 1080i and settings I arrived at through that made all of my sources, TV, 360, etc. look better.
I think there's a game, (NBA2k7?) for the 360 that'll give you calibration screens. It be worth it to rent it just for the calibration.

DVE is a good way to go, used it on the X360's DVD player and have had no complaints about it. Just watched Superman Returns HD on the X360 a few days ago and it looked great.

It's NBA Live 06, and you can download the demo. That will give you a better calibration for games. If you're calibrating for movie watching, just use Avia or DVE.

I used AVIA as well and was not happy with the results. The colors were a bit bland. I'm just waiting on HD DVE.
