Hey all,
I'm just trying to figure out a solution to my home network. I've spread my wireless network from my 2nd floor router (WRT54GS) to my basement via a Linksys Repeater (WRE54G). My basement desktop connects fine and stays stable via the repeater. But, when i connect my PS3 (60Gig) to the internet, it continually "disconnects from the source". After i unplug the repeater i get a 60% signal which is "fast" and reliable, but my desktop is rendered connectionless. Can anyone think of any solutions that would allow my PS3 and computer to live and play together nicely?
Thanks.

Just to clarify the situation, your ps3 and your computer and both in the basement right? If not, if they are away from each other, I would hard wire the ps3 (if its close to the router) then keep your computer wireless, or the other way around. Whatever one is close to the router. If neither are close, and both must be wireless we'll have to think a bit more. :p

Yeah, both are in the basement, nearly impossible to hard wire. Oddly enough, I turn the PS3 on today, to get some Multiplayer Resistance in, and what do you know?.... i get a solid, stable connection with the repeater on and computer downloading a file... Guess it really is hit or miss, maybe its some interference I've not thought about (converted all phones to 5.8 ghz phones can't think of anything else). But still, any suggestions in stabilizing my network is greatly appreciated.

Have you installed after market firmware, such as Sveasoft? It can improve stability quite a bit and allow you to boost the output of router.
Note: Not sure if this is possible for the repeater, but it is for the router, FWIF.

jlachanc,
Thats actually pretty cool, never knew about 3rd party firmwares. If it works I suppose i can remove my repeater altogether. I'll look into it some more, but as my last girlfriend says i have serious commitment issues, so gotta think about the $20/year subscription (is that only for access to their forums and future firmware releases, or does it actually have any bearing on the functionality of the software?)
Does anyone have any experience with Sveasoft?
Thanks

There's multiple flavors of the router licences. Most are free as required under the general licence requirements of Linux. Sveasoft has a free version too called Alchemy. This link should give you all the background + other souces for the free versions of the firmware: Link (http://www.wi-fiplanet.com/tutorials/article.php/3562391)
Keep in mind this is not a 0% risk endevour. I've done it myself and have been successful as I'm sure 10's of thousands of others. It's just that you void your warranty and any hope of support by Linksys by doing the upgrade. Then again, there is a lot of troubleshooting info out there too.
Good luck.
