I'm not either. A group of us had walk-through matches on Saturday to get familiar with the maps. We would start out by going around and showing each other what we knew about each map and then start the match. We only got through half of them though.

Epic confirmed on their forums that these are coming up. Mark rein said that they would be here on the 10th because the site that posted this was australian and it will be the 11th there. He also said there would be a patch coming out the same day.

Good news for all us Gear-heads. :D I can't wait to see them. The 10th is just around the corner sa-weet!

I, too, think they are a bit early. On the other hand, for those playing Gears exclusively I suspect it's just the right time for some new content.

The best games that I had was with members of AVS..Its laid back and I know I suck and nobody tells me that and realize its just a game unlike 99.8% of the other douches out their....I dont play the game much anymore because of the cheating I have encountered...

They should just add another option for ranked matches, once that allows your team vs other team instead of team stacking on ranked atm.

I think the issue with the host name wasn't so much playing on the same team, it was setting up spies or exploiters on the other team, which is also why they added they execution revive limit and took away cameras in ranked matches.

It's possible, but I've been tagged while chainsawing a person and I have tagged someone while being chainsawed. Perhaps the patch will address that as well. I think if it becomes harder to tag a person the game will only get better.

By not showing the host name they remove the stack teams from the rank matches. Friends can still play together in player matches. Hopefully they will add a clan ranked match at some point but otherwise rank matches should be an even playing field. You should not have a well oiled team vs a bunch of strangers. And you shouldnt really be able to make a game just for Boosting purposes.

I am happy with this patch. One of the only other things I would ask for is the clan support for the people that want it.

Taking the host name away isn't going to stop the people who are boosting. All you have to do is put in search criteria that will return less than 10 results. Usually you can search something like 14 game min and max execution and you will get a short list. Thats how I was playing w/ my friends. It was a heck of a lot easier than trying to find the same game in any rooms that went less than 10.

Nice , glad to see that several of the things that I was complaining about (along with many others) will now be 'fixed' . I might just be able to re-visit some ranked matches and actually enjoy it ;) .

Oh, trust me, I hunt them bastards down when I get tagged. Of course the rolling/dodging is occasionally goofy to control.

1 hit shotgun happens when you stand right next to them (which um... makes sense) or when you use the great skill of aiming at the right spots. The chainsaw animations need work. It locks in a split second too quick, and the fact that you can survive a grenade when you are sawing (or on a bleed out) or no one can shoot you with anything while you are sawing is pretty stupid... though it makes for some really funny super chainsaw battles.

The biggest need is better server finding. I never get the same list as a friend who lives 10 miles away... both on Comcast and I believe both of us have the same 2nd/3rd hop. It is so unintuitive and bare of useful information.

I just read where it was suppose to be Wed. Morning at 1:00 am when the maps and patch were to be available..And it's 12:35 as I type.. So will know soon enough... And also Epic is less than an hour away from me .. Cliffy B lives in a cabin in Cary.. He has also thought very seriously about naming gears of war Apex War.. named after a little town close to him and building the maps around that town's theme.. That would have been pretty cool I think.. Maybe something for the future someday.. But being one hour away, makes you want to scream "Road Trip" and be there in an hour.. : 0)

"Raven Down" is very small with tons of cover which should offer very intense 4 on 4 battles while "Old Bones" is decent sized and should make for some interesting fire fights that will probably require a bit more strategy . 2 very nice additions and you can't beat the price , thank you Epic :D .

well download maps in little bit but want to comment on frag tagging.
It does require some skill as you are uncovered when trying to get close enough to tag. The person getting tag has serveral options.

a - use machine gun when u see emeny coming try to run (this will stop him from running and take cover

b - run to a better position so you go to the above mention step A

c - take a shotgun and blow his head off (if he is close enough to tag you - he is close enough to take a 1 hit shotgun blast) Trust me I know cause I've done it and received it

d - if you do get tag..give it right back to him just to even it out..heck, you might get lucky and blow up 2 or 3 people at 1 time

So prehaps the people getting tagged don't have good close combat to combat skills so they get tagged. I don't want to compare it to Halo2 but when I person comes at me with the sword...i immedently start backing up and BR him You just can't have one close combat weapon (chainsaw)

Anyway, maybe OT, but I went on to some Co-Op (I want Hardcore achievements!) and was playing with someone and they kicked me out. I mean, you host a public Co-op, I come in to help, we play maybe a level or 2 and then you don't even chat, respond and then boot me? How rude!

My skill: so so. I'm recreation, not pro. But I am liking GoW over Halo 2 just for the fact on the 360, it plays smooth, looks great, and takes the features of the 360. Halo 2 on my older box is fine, but I'm tired of the same old maps and getting p0wn3d when the matchmaking isn't even. :D

I thought "Raven Down" was more/less setup like "The Clocktower", but w/o the second level. Emphasis seems to be more on the fire fight.

"Old Bones" seemed like an "enclosed" version of "The Mausoleum".

Can't wait to fully experience these tonight.

If you switch to your grenades by pressing Up on your D-Pad, you can work to get very close to an enemy, and press the 'B' button which starts a melee. If you are close enough, the grenade will stick into your enemy and, within about 2 seconds, result in an instant death/implosion for your enemy. Beware though, you need to get relatively far away after the tag, or your grenade just may take you with it...

Don't forget frag tagging is also a really cheap way to end the round. If you tag tham and you blow yourself up you win. They should reverse that so you suicide first and lose...

Too be more specific when you have grenades equipped in Gears of War you can run up to someone hit the B button and it will stick the spikes of the grenade into the player. So they are "tagged" by the grenade and cannot escape their death. Your pretty much considered unskilled if you grenade tag (frag tag) more then once or twice in a versus game. The best thing to do if you do get tagged is to try and roll into them so they die by their own grenade.

I wouldn't.. Not when the maps are small and the guns are never accurate.. One time you could shotty someone once and kill them the next time you could shotty them 5 times within 5ft of you and still not kill them before they tagged you..

I disagree. Just take the frags out of the maps and listen to the taggers cry and complain because they can't tag.

To test out the new patch with the grenade tag I decided to play a whole match with only using the tag. Sure, it seems as though you can't do a tag from quite the distance you were able to before, but standing in front of them trying to tag will only get you blown apart by the shotgun.

The way you SHOULD tag (and what makes it very cheap) is just wait until your enemies are engaged in battle and not paying attention, then simply run by them, tag them, and keep running. This is still very possible even with the patch. I think I had 20 something kills with only using the tag that match.

As far as the removal of host name in ranked matches goes, I was still easily able to find my friends game every time last night. So it's not really that big of a deal I guess.

I love the new "Raven Down" map. It's typically just an all out bloodbath.

Anyway, I do not run into these stupid players. I have great games every night with people I don't know and have never played with before and I have used my friends list the way it;s meant to be used...build it full of "friends" that are fun to play with.

Hey, dummy your probably part of the problem. How come every person online usually agrees with me? And there is way more then 10 people per game because everyone is so dumb they cant even last more then 2 rounds. Then people join then people quit real fun and evenly matched. Wrong. 1. Get your team into a private chat.
2. Have your host call out the settings for the match.
3. Search for the game type, rounds, etc. that the host has created for his match.
4. Once the host is in the room refresh your search results, look towards the bottom of the results (newly created games show up on the bottom), then look for whatever map the host is playing. Typically the amount of players will also be 1/8 at this point.

We were doing this all night last night and I probably only entered the wrong room about two times, and that was only because the host was being slow setting up the match.

I have yet to get into a game with anyone from there. Last week nothing. Last night I was set up as a host for GoW game night. Didn't get anything going either. I ended up playing with my usual group from www.2old2play.com

Why am I only seeing a couple of matches per refresh when doing a quick match now? I used to get a bunch of options.

Yes, its quite sad that they didnt radomize the lobby a little to prevent the cheaters from continuing to ruin fun for the random people they cheat. I wonder, when they do get around to actually instituting a clan system will these people continue this behavior? I mean it has got to be a lot easier to p@wn a bunch of random people then to play against another set team. I know some teams actually want a challeng, but many just want to make themselves feel like "winners" and the only way they can do that is to cheat. Many say they want to play with friends but if they go to the player matches they can play with 8 friends, yet refuse to do so. Thus they help create one of the situations that causes the general gamer to shun online. Online will never be HUGE until this can be fixed in all the games. It is really no fun for a new person to go into a game and have no chance and then to be ridiculed by the cheaters that gave them no chance. Why should they continue to play if they have no fun.

That being said. I have not seen any stacked teams since the patch but I did run into one loser who felt the need to use the roadie run glitch. What is wrong with people? Seriously, what ever happened to Honor and fair play?

I really like Old Bones. It is similar to War Machine, but different just the same. Personally I don't care for War Zone. Raven Down is small but surprisingly we had some matches go on for a while last night.

I think Raven Down is my new favorite map. I prefer the quick, close in, default-weapon battles as opposed to maps where everyone makes a mad dash to the power weapons.

I think some of the larger maps are way too big for only 4v4. It's just too easy for the last person alive to hide out and avoid the remaining players until a draw.

Gears of war is over Ranked online. You cannot assume you will get a good group. I never find people that I would want to play a ranked match with. 9/10 people in this game in player matches are so stupid. Now I cant even play with people I know are not stupid in ranked matchs. It isn't the 360, it's the gamers that refuse to learn to play properly. I pretty much avoid Live nowadays. People will learn how to cheat and screw their way to victory, and finding gamers that will not are more trouble than it's worth. Personally, I don't need the gratification from beating a bunch of 12 year olds, in their pursuit of self-identity.

The only saving grace is co-op, IMO.

You must be the luckiest guy on the planet, even in player matches I seem to run into every smacktard in the northern hemisphere. I don't even play unless I'm hosting nomally, that way we just give'em the old bootski.

there are few things more satisfying than bringing down the banhammer on an annoying player. maybe i have been lucky, i don't know. i've been playing ranked since day one, and just haven't seen anything all that bad. i'd probably play more player matches, but:

1. people come and go mid-round with no incentive to finish the game.
2. you can't collect achievements in player matches (yes, i'm a nerd and collect them)
3. the competition isn't always all that great.

honestly, if they'd allow you to get achievements in player matches, i'd probably exclusively play with my friends. i just have that bug that some gamers have where i feel the need to collect everything. what can i say, i can't help myself.

I do not like admitting to being bad at anything... but I tried to play online one time, and I was completely clueless. To further make matters worse, I had teammates berating me for being ignorant and not helping out. AS IF I WANT TO BE ****** AT ANYTHING I DO. Nor did they make any suggestions other than "dont die" or "you should have shot him", or "you should have used melee (grenade)"...etc.

Now here is the story. I am a decent racer, as I typically play racing games. I completed casual on GOW, which may not be a big deal to the FPS folks on here, but it was the first game of any kind that I have completed...ever (as far as I can remember) and I was pretty pumped. This led me to going online...as I really enjoyed playing the game. In single player, I was regularly killed before i "figured" out that I was missing a key point or tactic, or even instruction that may have flashed mulitiple times on the screen but being a FPS noob, i was too busy to notice...I also just learned what a grenade melee was -a few minutes ago while reading this thread. I have yet to try it.

Now that we know I suck at this game, how does one propose I game online? The folks that I played with that one time would respond something like "dont play online!", but that is not exactly the sort of response I am looking for. I clearly indicated to the group previously mentioned that it was my very first time at it...but that did not seem to help. I definitely was not looking for sympathy either...just explaining that I may not be really helpful to the team.

my background. Ex-military (believe it or not), I also played collegiate athletics, and now at 41 y/o currently race motorcycles (MX and supermoto every now and then)...so I know I have REAL world skills, I am just not that great at aiming with a thumb (actually completely suck), or moving without hitting obstacles that I prefer to avoid, or not seeing someone walking up behind me,,,etc.

Anyway, maybe now you gaming studs out there have a small look into the OTHER side of the coin. And while you are at it, you can put me on your avoid list so you might have one less "stupid" noob to deal with.
Oh, since online was so much fun, I have gone back to try and complete hardcore...while still racing PGR3 so I do not get too frustrated.

I am a long time PC FPS player but Gears was my first console shooter. I suck and am still getting used to the controls but I am learning. What I have found works really well to learn the multiplayer maps and still have fun is to create private versus matches. Even if I can only get 3 of my other friends to play (and thus have a 2v2) I find my skill is improving already.

So if you know enough people who are mature and willing to have fun with you (even though your skills may not be the greatest) it may help you learn the versus aspect a bit quicker than random online matches.

You reminded me of another point i was planning to make.
I currently have zero friends on my friends list! Go figure. With everyone that I know, none have a 360. Not even family. I find it very odd, especially considering that I now work in high tech (semiconductor). All the friends on my friends list have been from either MotoGP06 or PGR3.
I am actually trying to meet folks in PGR3 and looking at their gamer info to see if they play GOW, and am working that angle.

Multiplayer is a lot harder then the single player game. A buddy of mine beat GOW on Insane, then he went on live and could barely kill one person. Proof that humans are still better then AI.

I have about 70 friends on my list now from this forum and AGE. I have only had my 360 for about a month now. We don't care how good someone is. We only care about having fun. We like you have more important things in life to worry about and we play to have fun. I don't mind some friendly trash talking but if I hear someone ripping their teammates skills then I will kick them.

Funny thing is. Most people are ripping their teammates while waiting in the death lobby after they have already been killed. Go figure.

I think I am the one Skeptik was talking about in his post... :D :D I do suck, but he has been great at helping me along. He really doesn't care if you get taken out in the first couple seconds, just keeps getting his kills and practice in. A couple other guys have been very nice as well.
Monstermile has introduced me to the guys from 2old2play. They ARE a great bunch of guys, I plan to subscribe this weekend...As well as AGE. In fact, we just went through all the maps the other night, just to walk around and get a feel for the map and find out where the default weapons are. When the game's on we see some great "F"-ups and just laugh and laugh and laugh about how someone died or how they got tagged by smoke. It has really improved the whole LIVE experience for me. I hope you get the same thing out of it.

Sent you one as well Crash. I also play PGR3 so I am always looking for people to race with. Some guys from AGE are supposed to be getting some racing together Monday night. If it goes I'll send ya an invite to it.

I'm willing to help, usually I melee with smoke grenades during training or shoot but not to kill.

Gives the other player a chance to get used to controls, diving and roadie runs.

One problem, have to get my son his own gamertag because he is 100% way above me and a young one.
